I feel SO dumb right now. This morning I very stupidly let my 1 year old hold my 6 week old baby Oswald. She was holding him so nicely on her lap then I look away for a second and she threw him down on the ground 8...
Omg, he seemed okay as I picked him up, I checked him over and he seemed just fine. This evening I check on him and he is limping. He puts some weight on it but not 100%. I looked at where his leg and foot meets and its swollen. The size of a pea lump on it..He shows no pain when I touch it. Do you think its broken or something else? Should we see the vet? Any idea how much this will cost? I'm so worried about him.
8...
One thing for sure, she will never ever hold him again.

YES vet!

Piggies are prey animals and thus very good at hiding illness/injury.

Def sounds like a vet visit for pain relief if nothing else!

I have to agree, you MUST get him to a vet asap.

Cant comment on cost etc, but when my friends guinea pig broke its leg, she waited til the next day and he died on route to vets, so please get him there quickly.

You have learnt an important lesson why young children should not handle the pets, please get it checked out. As previously said, guinea pigs are very good at hiding pain and illness, so even if it appears better, it still needs looking at

hope all goes well

i know how that feels to feel guilty about a pigs injury. roger hurt his foot pretty badly 3 days after we got him bc we over estimated his abilities. fortuantely, it wasnt broken. we took him to the vet, and they gave him an xray. if it's swollen and hes not putting much weight on it, he needs to see a vet. if it is broken, they might be able to put a splint on. notice if he is getting around well with his other three legs. is he popcorning? (roger still was) the def hide pain well. my vet suggested giving him extra vit C to help promote healing of the ligaments etc.

Oh poor you and poor Oswald. Accidents do happen so try not to blame yourself. We just have to learn from these things.

I think you should take him to the vet to get him checked out and he may need pain relief too,

Hope it all goes okay,

xx

Vet right away. My Felix started limping about midnight one night, I've never figured out what he did exactly. I got him off to the vet first thing in the morning. Worried sick. It was the end of the month aswell and I was terrified about cost.

It was a Saturday aswell, so if I had missed the vet I would have had to go to the emergency vet, which charges seventy five quid just to see him. Thank god my vet was able to see him right away!

It turned out he was fine anyways. She gave him some pain killers as it appeared to be sore, but it wasn't broken. It's just like him to make things out to be worse than they are.

The pain killers helped and he was better in a few days.

Anyways, hope it isn't a break and it is as easy to fix as my Felix's was.

One of our boys broke a leg but not a sound out of him, unfortunately his break was quite bad and he had to have the leg amputated, he healed very quickly and was soon running about and popcorning like it never happened.

My friend broke her rabbits foot and it was going to cos £600! to amputate (cheekybreeks how much did it cost for a guinea pig and which leg?)i don't know what they would do with a guinea pig tho a splint would probably work as they don't chew as much as rabbits that was around £85

Really sorry to hear about little Oswald 8...
I hope you can take him to the vets to get him looked at.....

healing wheeeeeeeeks and loves from the girlies and I xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks for the well wishes everyone :) sorry I haven't updated sooner but little Oswald is just fine. His foot was not broken, just hurt.

But now today I have another poor piggy :( I was holding little Pabst about an hour ago and I noticed a grape sized lump under his chin *sigh* any ideas what this could be? It's 1am so I suppose off to the vet we go in the morning..

this is one example.....there is so many...... quick trip to the vets to be reassured is the best way :)
never ending at the moment is it :(

it can be anything, only a vet can tell. guinea pigs are very good at storing fat, usually it's under the chin, armpits, around mammal glands. the lump can be simply a fatty deposit, but these can get inflamed and turn into abscess. it can be any other growth, but don't worry yourself to death until you see a good vet. one of our piggies has fatty lumps and another girl has one, too - they are both fine, just fat lumps, but get yours checked out.

Its not attached and it moves around easily..it seems like there is one small pea sized one with a larger grape sized one right above it under his chin.
