Hello guys, I'm a pretty cavvy savvy gal and I've had a piggy before who has undergone he'll of a lot of dental procedures about 2/3 years ago! Luckily he has never been back since. Today however I'm concerned about my other unlucky piggy!

His name is George and I've noticed he has been a bit off his hay. He's eating it, just not with as much gusto as usual. Cue me sniffing all my hay and changing it more often than usual! As I'm sure any of you would be I was a bit confused... When checking his teeth to see if they were slanted the upper insicors, which were the only ones he would let me see were straight and even. Nuggets were still being eaten although not quite as many as usual. I've been giving extra veggies and forage treats, which he goes mad for and he eats a carrot and the forage hay with absolute gusto!

Today I've noticed he has his bottom right tooth broken. It is currently about 3/4 of the way to the other one.

This probably explains the reduced hay consumption and less nuggets! So watched him eat a carrot not problem and hand fed him some forage. He was bobbing his head a little which I'm guessing was from not as much grip with the front teeth!

I'm just checking with you guys, I havnt missed anything here! I'm measuring the amount of nuggets and water he is eating and giving him a few extra treats to make sure he is eating and wear down those molars! I feel awful that I havnt noticed this tooth for maybe a week? I'm not sure, I'm hoping I'm doing all the right things!

How long till the tooth matches up? Might go buy him some posh hay to keep him interested, carry on giving extra veggies and treats?

Hope you can reassure me I'm doing all the right things here! :)

Thanks in advance :)

Anyone? :( I don't wanna go to bed all night and leave him if I need to do something quickly! Xx

@Kellymarie a few weeks ago I had the same problem. I noticed my Milan had snapped one of his bottom teeth inside his water bottle, although it didn't seem to affect him eating his hay.. He carried on perfectly normal. He snapped his just over half of the way down and it was fully grown again after about a week. Unfortunately he did the exact same thing about a week after it grew back and again it grew back fine with no problems. I was going to take him to see a vet to check everything was okay with his teeth after snapping one twice in such a short period of time but I have change their water bottles to a different style that he can't break teeth on and I will just keep a check on him to make sure it doesn't happen again. If it does then I'll be taking him the vets.

Just wondering, have you checked the water bottle to make sure there's not a tooth stuck in the end?

From my experience with broken teeth, don't worry about it too much. It should grow back perfectly fine. Just keep a check on it each day to make sure the top teeth aren't overgrown and obviously ensure he's eating and drinking okay
