Hi my name is Gladys and today I realized something brown on my female guinea pigs belly. I am a little worried but it doesn’t seem to bother her and she doesn’t seem to pick at it. However, I’m no sure what it is and I’m worried. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it. I tried to get some good pictures she just kept squirming.

That's a nipple :) Nothing to worry about

Welcome to the forum

Guinea pigs of both genders have two nipples and in younger ones you can also see a raised belly button. The colour of the nipples depends on the markings and skin colour, the same as in humans, just with more variation.

Okay thank you just got worried I never had a female before
That's okay :) It is what we are here for, glad we could offer reassurance. All normal

Just a nipple- no worries there! Sometimes they can be different colors on different sides... one of mine has one brown nipple and one pink nipple.

Interestingly, both male and female guinea pigs have two nipples on their lower stomachs, above their back legs. Guinea pigs have precocious young and smaller litters, hence only two nipples. A lot other rodents have whole double rows of nipples down their bodies... we have female hamsters too and one of my kids is always weirded out by their bellies, as he says they have "too many nips." LOL!

Nipples can confuse us all, especially if they are a different colour to piggy's fur- also belly buttons- for over a year I thought Jezzy floof had a weird little lumpy bald patch in the middle of her tummy until we brought home naked skinny pig Tallulah and I suddenly realised, its a belly button! The anatomy is a bit more obvious without the furry pyjama suit :)
