Hi everyone,
I have a baby piggy, called Scruff (his fur sticks out in all different directions) and on a regular basis he is jumping and bucking around. I was just wondering if you could tell me is this normal and just young, lively spirits, or is there a problem? I have only adopted adult guinea pigs before, who are a little more sedate! Also when I'm handling him he doesn't really like to be stroked, and does bite a bit. There is no sign of dandruff in his fur to indicate mites.
Thank you all again for your advice!

it sounds like popcorning. it means he is happy or excited! :smitten:

my merlin does it constantly he is crazy! ;D my 2 adult pigs do it too. i dont think all pigs do it though

Hehe yeah. It's called Popcorning, lots of pigs do it when they are excited ;D
Mine bite a bit when they want to go back to go to the toilet.
Sometimes they just like biting fingers lol

Oooh, that's nice to know then! He's VERY happy and excited! He's a real little character, very noisy. He'll store his fresh food away in his igloo and then come out and squeak as if he's really hungry and hasn't been fed for ages, cheeky so and so.
I can't handle him for long yet, unless he's eating something, because he does bite (just to nip, not draw blood, but it still hurts!) and is really wriggly. I guess he's just young, not used to it, and has soooo much energy!

Nice to know too, because I was worried about him being lonely on his own until he's neutered. Obviously I'm not too bad company for him!

some piggies seem to love human company. my merlin is a lone boy at the min, and he loves me talking to him. i only have to say his name and he popcorns like crazy ;D
