Hi, Buddy has got one blocked nostril, he has been quiet for the last two days. I weighed him yesterday had he has lost 50 grams since last week, and today he had lost another 10 grams. His breathing is fine not crackly or laboured and he has been eating okay for the last 2 days. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I do not have a guinea savvy pet anywhere near.

You could try steam therapy using 2 drops of Olbas oil in a bowl of hot water next to the cage. You can also use a steam inhaler which you hold over the nose in 5 second bursts.

If you can get him to a vet (a normal one would be ok) Bisolvon would help clear any mucous.

Thanks Helen I will try the olbas oil. The mucous from hi nostril has set like concrete is there a way I can remove it.

He probably would yes but I think it may be something you need to do in stages if it is stuck fast.

Hi Helen we have done a stream inhalation with olbas oil and I managed to remove the plug of mucous. He seems quite bright and was tucking in to cabbage and hay. I will keep a very close eye on him. Thank you so much Jenny x

Thank you again Helen it is so good to have someone to communicate with who doesn't make you feel like" what's the fuss its only a guinea pig ". These two boys are my first piggies so the guidance on the forum is fantastic and reassuring. I will sleep well tonight.
