Does anyone keep track of the cost of keeping piggies?

I have five and i really have no idea how much they cost me :-\

Ideally i am trying to work out if i could afford more ;D

i dont and I'm honestly to scared to ;D

i will try and work something out now per piggy (but i have 3):

for a week after C&C, toys, bottles, food bowls and fleece:

£4 veg
£1 food and hay
£1 treats

since november i have spent about £130 on vet bills between the 3 of them but as we all know it can change from nothing to £100 in a few days ::)

I'm going to be living on my won very soon and i am trying to work out the finances ;D

I have my eye on a pair of sows though so the quicker i work it out the better!

One of my sows had a chest infection which cost me £80 in a week...

I may go out tomorrow and buy supplies and work it out from there!

I'm scared also of working out how much they cost ;D they cost me in the region of £30 a month...I thiiiiiink...probably grossy under caluclating!

Fresh veg and some fruit is about £15 a week less if it's a good night at Sainsburys and loads reduced. Bedding and hay it just depends prob £6 a week. In the past half a year we have spent well over £500 on vet bills. That is for 4. Was a bit less when we had 3 then 2. There worth spending all the money on them tho :D

I think you can keep the day to day costs pretty low if you plan ahead and are careful. I buy hay by the bale - super cheap! - use all my kitchen leftovers like carrot peelings, and other left oevr veg pieces that are fresh but not needed. And I use newspaper (with the hay) for bedding - which I get from my parents so I don't even buy those!
The real question is - would you have the resources to cope with a sudden. large vet bill? Thats when your finances really get stretched.

well i speed a 160 a month on there veg - thats for 12 of them 11 or them love there food and great eaters
then i speed 10 a month on hay i use a bale a week and its £2 so i just give my dad £10 a week as he gets it for me
then its about £15 a month on there dry mixed food
i allways put away 185 a month for there food and hay
I'm allways buying toys and stuff for them

I tried to work this out per pig, but it really depends on if you buy food and bedding in bulk (sacks of feed, whole bales of hay etc) or at the pet shop in smaller quantities.

A sack of food lasts my 12 about a fortnight - so two sacks a month, say £20
I use shavings, £6 per bale, 2 bales a month = £12
Hay - I buy in large sacks as I don't have room for a bale and don't want mice - £1 sack, sack a week or so = £5
Veg - I live in the country and lots of people save me their peelings etc. so I buy a sack of horse carrots, £1.50 a month plus I spend about £5 a week in the supermarket still = £6.50
I also buy Graze On dried grass at £8 a bale but this lasts a while - say £4 mth

So, not including vets bills, wormer etc. I reckon 12 cost me £47.50 a month, or about £4 per pig.

Um, and I was basing this on 12 pigs but I now have (running out of fingers and toes to count on!) 18.

Hmmm, I wish I hadn't done the maths now! £4 per pig sounds much better. Think of it like that. Not including toys, treats, sickness, housing, etc. etc. etc.!
