Building up piggies on grass

Did you ever think of having their hutch OUTSIDE of the shed when it was so hot?

Yes thanks but moving the hutch in and out is not something which is very easy when considering my set up and the fact that my boys don’t get confined to their hutch. I also don’t like the idea of their hutch being completely outside over night.

Since Elvis has to have medicine I was giving him a tiny bit of herbs with that so what should I start adding after herbs?

Perhaps pepper next. Ultimately the point is to not overload the system with a lot of veggies at once

It depends what hutch you have I suppose. Just sounds like such a juggling match for you!

Hello it's me again. It's a nice day here today and normally I'd put them on the grass but I'm not sure if it's too soon and I'd be risking their poos going soft again. What would you say?

It really depends on how their poops have been since you’ve been giving them veggies again. If things have been ok, then you can probably give them a bit of grass time, 15 minutes maybe. If you have a fleece blanket, you could put them down on the grass so they can enjoy outside time but without being able to eat a lot of grass.

Ordinarily I’d say that if they are on grass, and their tummies are otherwise ok, reduce their veggie intake down and count their grass as a veg - either a reduced amount of veg or not veg at all. As yours have had a poorly tummy, then I’d go with my first paragraph for now

Their poos have been fine since I started them on veggies again so I'll let them have 15 minutes of grass and then I'll put some towels down so they can stay outside still. When I put them on the grass I only give a little bit of veggies. For today I won't give any veggies since they've had grass. Thanks again for your help 🙂

Hi, I'm back again. Sorry I've got another question. I'm building the boys back up on grass now. Last time I did it in 15 minute increments but I was wondering if I could increase it faster or would that risk upsetting their tummies again?

Also how hot is too hot for them to be outside? Today it was around 24°C so I waited until now to put them out because it's cooler. I have a shade over half the fun but I didn't want to risk it when the sun was bearing down more.

It's not a question but I wanted to share a picture of the lovely new run I got recently. It's really big and they seem to really love it in there. 😄😄 (The towels are to limit the amount of grass they can have but still letting them be outside)

If they are fine on 15 min increments, then try to build it up further. All you can really do is watch how things go.

Their comfortable temperature is 18-22 degrees. Anything beyond 25 is too hot

I love your run! But I don't think you're gonna limit their grass by putting towels down. They will just eat around the towels and eat the grass closer to the ground

We found that out on the first day 😂. They sat under the towels and continued to eat so now there's cardboard under the towels which seems to work.
