Last week piggy Peach was prescribed Baytril and hibiscrub for a Bumblefoot infection. She’s been waited on hand and paw with hibiscrub washes twice daily, and has improved in mood slightly. The vet gave us a weeks course but the Bumblefoot is still quite bad(?). It isn’t as tender, but the swelling hasn’t reduced by much and neither has the diameter of the scab formed. How long does Bumblefoot take to heal in general? (Image below is identical to how my piggies foot looks- she won’t stay still enough for her own picture lol)

Hi there,

My piggy had bumble foot awhile back. Here is my thread

Specialist - Please help-?Bumble foot

He took a few weeks to heal with twice daily soaks. His bumble foot was quite open so we did end up wrapping it which helped dramatically (gauze with flamazine cream on it and then wrapped). He also had pain meds and antibiotics, did they culture the wound? Also highly recommend vet bed. We purchased it after this experience. There are likely a few folks on here who will be able to give you some more advice!

Ouch! Poor piggy! Hope Peach soon recovers. No experience with bumblefoot but wanted to send healing vibes. My lot send
Wheaky wheaks to Peach and they also asked if they can see a picture please.

sorry for the late reply, it’s been stressful! Unfortunately her foot is beginning to swell more even with the treatment daily so I will try to take a photo if she will let me. It does look quite bad, and thank you for the kind regards x

Sorry for the late reply, it’s been quite stressful. We finished her medicine course of scrub and baytril but it has slowly begun to swell even more. She’s down on some fleece, I thought I had some vet bed left over from the birth of one of my girls but we didn’t have any so I’ve re ordered some. We went back to the vet who specialises in piggies, she’s taken a blood sample. She’s unsure wether the bacteria is resistant and we need different medication, or wether it could be a tumour or some kind. The vet was a bit confused as the hole itself is scabbed but there is still a lot of inflammation and it’s slowly on the rise(now beginning to take over her little toe). We’re waiting for the blood tests back, she didn’t re prescribe baytril as it might not be working but carrying on with the twice daily soaks and to apply sudocrem as a barrier until results are back x

Oh gosh ouch, poor little Peach.
I have everything crossed for you and your sweet piggie, you’re doing everything you can for her and she will be so grateful. 💕
Please let us know how you get on with your little princess. 😍

sorry to hear it isn’t getting better. My vet actually picked the scab a bit and swabbed the wound so they knew what bug was there. May be worth an X-ray to see if extended into the foot but I am not sure :) I really thought the topical antibiotic was helpful as well.

keep us posted!
