My pig has some redness on the bottom of her back pad. It almost looks like rug burn. She's not acting different or sick. I don't know if I should take her to the vet. Would the redness on her pad be a early sign of bumblefoot?
The redness can be first sign of a developing infection, but it would be good if you could post a picture, please, so we can see whether it Looks sore or not. Bumble foot is when there is already an open sore, something you'd rather try to avoid. http://www.guinealynx.info/pododermatitis.html
That does look like the start of something to me, though not likely to be caused by damp fleece if you change that often and urine wicks away ok. I would get it checked out. Also ask the vet to check the heart as Bumblefoot can be linked to heart issues. Is it only the one foot?
Ok, I would get it checked in case. I have had success treating Bumblefoot with a steroid cream called Zymox but see what the vet thinks. It is not an emergency though.
