Hi! I recently just adopted 2 lilac Pigs around 1-2 years old. I am not sure what conditions they were previously kept in but I noticed my boy has red feet. I haven’t been able to see them clearly as I only got him a couple of days ago and don’t want to stress him out by handling him yet. From what I can see it’s just redness no scabs or bleeding, and he isn’t showing any signs of pain or discomfort. Is this bumblefoot or could his feet just naturally be on the red side?

Hi

If the soles are evenly red, please be aware that this can be a sign of increased blood flow in the surface vessels of piggies with pale skin. This is the way they regulate their body temperature. It happens mainly in the ears but can also be noticeable in the feet.

If there are distinct red dots that are not symmetric, then it can point towards the a beginning skin infection; however, I would definitely not panic anf overtreat as that can make things worse instead of better.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you what is going on sight unseen.

Hiya yes it seems to be evenly red with no dots, scabs or swelling. So happy to hear that as I was panicking a little haha. Will keep a close eye on it until their check up at the vets. Thank you :)

I'm no vet but I wouldn't tend to think that a bit of redness on it's foot is anything to worry about. I'd just make sure that the surface that the piggy is walking on is nice and soft because I've heard that a piggy's feet can get sore when constantly walking on hard surfaces. I wouldn't think that a trip to the vets is really necessary just for a bit of coloration on its foot, but it's always good to get a general check up anyway (especially to see the condition of a newly bought piggy). With a guinea pig, it never hurts to take them to a vet.
