Bunny is not eating by herself at all. Even coaxing her with all the grass she used to love so much isn't doing anything to make her eat by herself. I don't think the meds are working now (metacam, sulfatrim, marbocyl, tramadol). She has started bleeding again yesterday and is off her food for 3 days now. We are just syringe feeding her 15mls of critical care every 2-3 hours. She would sniff at the food but won't try to nibble them at all now. I just finished feeding her and she managed to eat 3 stalks of grass but that's all she can tolerate doing by herself. She won't even eat hay and pellets now.

We are giving her a week to see if she would improve or not. But it's always a hard decision whether to continue or just end her suffering already. I hate times like these. I'm thinking if there are things we still can do for her, but seeing her just staying inside her box and looking like she had all the guinea pig problems in the world is so heartbreaking.

She's just turning 4 in July. 😭😭😭

I think this is one of the hardest parts of being a pet owner - it's a rotten decision to make.
Last time I had to have a piggy put to sleep I cried buckets in the vet's office.
Whatever you decide and whenever you decide you will know you are acting out of love for Bunny and it's the right thing.
Holding you in my thoughts.

To pts or not pts? It is the last act of love we can give our beloved pets. You will know when she has had enough. She will tell you. Look at her eyes and you will know when she has given up the fight. Eyes are the window to the soul. My heart goes out to you. I am fortunate in that with my Lenny and Gizmo (my Rainbow Piggies) and also my 7 hamsters I never had to make that decision (apart from Frankie). Bunny has had a good life with you and she knows that you love her. Take comfort from the fact that you will end her suffering and that she will be popcorning and playing zoomies at the Rainbow Bridge.

This is one of the hardest decisions to make when it happens , it has happened to me before so here’s some advice on what to do.
Make sure Bunny is happy for the next week, provide her with lots of hay , fresh veggies and plenty of water . It is definitely a possibly that she heals in the next week if you really take care of her, but if not here’s what to do.
Consider life in her perspective. She
might be in pain and she is probably weak from not eating. All GP owners want their pets to be happy so by putting her to sleep , you are sending her to the rainbow bridge where she will be happy forever. When she is with you she is happy but she is in pain. So by putting her to sleep you are putting her in peace.

For the next week make sure SHE DRINKS LOTS OF WATER. And we must hope for the best.
Hoped this helped
Sending hugs and kisses your way

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. We are still continuing the care for Bunny and will see for a week what we would have to do. I just feel so sorry for her because she has been very lively and active until the start of this year. She has changed dramatically from being a feisty little fluffy guinea pig to a miserable one. 😢😢

We lost 2 guinea pigs last year (Deedee on January and Meemee which we had to pts on June) and I just feel bad that we may be losing Bunny as well in a short span of time. 😭😭 I am just relieved that we thought of adopting Prince because Cookie would then be alone if not and thank God the 2 of them are fully bonded already. One less thing to worry.

@anyar.dris Is she on any gut medication? I would think from the amount of meds she's on along with eating syringe food only she might feel discomfort in her digestive system. She may not be bloated but there could be something going on in there.

I'm not experienced with bladder flushes but know a bit about bladder surgeries and I would have thought the bleeding would have stopped by now. Is there any chance that she actually has a stone?

At times we have all been in this position and it sucks quite frankly. You just have to trust your instincts. I firmly believe that our pets tell us when it’s their time. We just have to be ready to listen to them and accept it ourselves. I have no doubt that you will do whatever is right for Bunny. Big hugs.

She had stones removed on 3rd April at Cat & Rabbit Clinic. Simon managed to removed then by just bladder flush. The last time they did xray was 2 weeks ago (she was with Debbie at TEAS that time) and there are no visible stones, but the bladder is still very inflamed. Debbie said even Kim can't understand why she is still bleeding quite a lot. They did blood test and Simon said apart from a slight anaemia, there was nothing wrong with the result. They also did cultured of her pee but with the antibiotics she was taking, the result was inconclusive. I think Debbie said they don't know what's wrong because the antibiotics should have worked by now. This all started in February.

She stopped bleeding last week but started again yesterday. All stuff that would cause too much calcium was removed since we picked her up from Debbie on 23rd April. Antibiotics has been tweeked/changed since 3rd April but nothing has changed. We are giving her all multivitamins, supplements, and everything we can think of that might help but still no change at all. Every time she pee, I can smell the strong scent of blood. 😞😞

So sorry for your news and I hope that Bunny will turn a corner and improve. I dread making the decision to let a piggy go but see it as the last act of love from me to them. I hope it doesn't come to this for you and have my fingers crossed for Bunny. xx

We've just been to Cat & Rabbit to see Simon. Bunny showed interest of eating but she can't chew so we thought her teeth must have overgrown. Good thing we were able to get an appointment for today. Turns out her mouth is full of thrush. Simon said it's because of the antibiotics she's been taking all this time (she's been taking antibiotics since Feb!). So he said to stop giving her the sulfatrim and just stick with marbocyl. She was prescribed with anti-fungal medicine for the mouth thrush as well.

Regarding her bladder, he said that Bunny's bladder is still very hard and inflamed and he doesn't know what is really going on in there because xray doesn't show any stones and sludge and everything is clear. He said the last resort would be to do exploratory surgery but he doesn't know if that would do anything good in the end. So right now, we'll just have to tweek a few things with her medications and see if anything will improve. If it still not then we will decide what to do, whether to do the exploratory surgery or not and just pts.

Let’s hope that tweaking the meds will make a real difference.
It must feel like a rollercoaster of emotions for you at the moment.
Still thinking of you

Thank you @Merab's Slave ...it's really stressful to be honest because we want what's best for her. Like you all say, we'll know when she had enough. Simon's not particularly concerned with the blood in her pee though. It's just he can't figure out what's really going in her bladder but I really sense from the way he was talking that he's hesitating to do the exploratory surgery as well because he doesn't know if it'll solve anything.

Keeping her in my thoughts, you are going through hell I am sorry. You have one of the best piggy vets in the country fighting her corner and with you as her slave she is in the best of hands. I hope she starts to turn the corner soon. Sending lots of love

Sending you and Bunny hugs. I am so sorry you are going through this. I hope the thrush meds help and she will start to pull through soon. X

Thank you all for your kind words. ❤️❤️ Simon said that if we opt for exploratory surgery, it's either we might find a tumour in the bladder or something else or nothing at all. I'm just wondering if tumour would be visible in xrays? According to him the xrays he has taken 2 weeks ago was clear.

Simon shown me those X-rays and they looked perfect I really hope things start to settle down for Bunny soon. She’s such a lovely girl xx

We didn't see you today Debbie! I know, I hope she would feel better soon to be able to eat at least. I just feel so sorry for her because she has problem at the other end now as well! The ulcers in her mouth don't help at all! No wonder she gone off food for the last few days. 😫😫
