Hi there I have been feeding my pigs on burgess excel mixed with pets at home nuggets and I was just wondering if anyone could recommend me the best food for my pigs? I want to feed them the best but as I am from Northern Ireland, oxbow is not really an option for me, thanks (:

Burgess are a very good brand, and are are used by most rescues I've come across. Personally, I use Oxbow, but this can be quite pricey, particularly if you've got several piggy mouths to feed.

Thank you for the advice and I can't afford to get oxbow at the moment as I am a student with no finances coming in I am living off my parents and I don't want to take advantage of that

I use mostly Burgess with various other brands for variation. Using more than one brand has the advantage that the piggies are not stuck just on one flavour, which can be a problem if they go off them or if their brand is temporarily not available.

Honestly, no pellets are an option. Three out of four of my piggies don't have any pellets. One has them as I only adopted her this week so I'm weaning her off of them.

I went for the no diet pellet because they caused a lot of problems in one of my boars, who sadly passed away.

If you have all the normal brands there you could try harringtons which is usually sold in supermarkets its made by wagg. Also there is science selective.

At the minute I have p@h nuggets harringtons burgess with mint and burgess with blackcurrant science selective and wagg museli I am trying to switch my pigs all onto two maximum as I have got different pigs from different sources and if you switch too quickly you risk tummy issues.

Thank you so much for the advice, and if I take them off pellets do I just give them more hay and veggies or is there another type of food to feed them?

I feed oxbow but only an egg cup per day per pig. Oxbow are the best readily available commercial pellet, but Helens suggest in of Bunny is a food with better ingredients. I personally dislike to burgess company so wouldn't choose to feed them unless a rescue pig came with them and needed weaning off.

I might buy some burgess as the rescue I went to get a free bag for every five I buy. I know it's not much but when money is tight it's the kind of help I can give.

Meant to add, over the years I have done loads of research into commerical dog and cat food, even doing my dissertation on dog food. I never knew getting guinea pigs would make it start again!
