Unfortunatley, I'm having a problem with my 2X5 C&C Cage grrrr which at the moment houses my 2 sows, Ginny and Amber and my Boar Woody.

I now dread cleaning it as it has an upper 2x2 Hay loft and the bottom level is not removable. I have to bend into the cage to clean it. I also don't like that the ramp takes up space from the bottom level. :(

I have considered a 3x5 single level which would make for easy cleaning. I just wonder if they would miss having an upper level? Or would the extra running space make up for that?

I also have a confession to make. rolleyes I'd like to add another 1/2 Sows to the herd sometime next year. :) So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just make it all one level. They will be fine as they have the same space. Adding more is lovely but you will need more space. I now have five sows and my c&c is 6 by 3. I find that is a nice amount of space for them all.

I don't think my brain is working, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Is the minimum cage size for 4 GP's 13 sq ft?

Making a 3x4 16 sq ft? 42" x 56" / 3 sq ft larger than the minimum.

So, I need to go even larger than a 5x3 for 4 GP's?

Sorry for the confusion.

Actually i would like to know peoples personal opinions to this. I have a herd of 7 (which might be expanding soon too) and i want to know what the idea C&C size would be. My herd now have plenty of room in a 6 by 3 cage with 2x stories above too.

My converted piggy bookcase

My two girls are in my now "famous" lol coverted solid wood bookcase - so its all one level and is nearly 6ft long by 3ft wide - I can clean the whole thing out within 10mins thanks to the joys of vet bed - but I have the same problem as you with a shop bought 2 tier cage for my boar Bumble - takes ages to clean out and is awkward - forever bashing my head and scratching myself - also makes it much harder to get the little monster out as he likes to hide in the tunnel half way up the ladder! :(|)

I have a 2 tier C&C cage and it takes ages to clean but i figure its worth it as my little piggy Sky sometimes needs some alone time from her sister you know how sisters are.

Fow 4 Sow's the recommended size is '2 x 6'. A '3 x 5' is more than enough room.

I would scrap the hayloft and make the cage one size Guinea Pig's aren't climber and would enjoy doing laps.

I think your idea for a larger one floor cage for your current piggies sounds great, I bet they'd love it. :)

Thanks for all the replys. They are extremely helpful.
I think A 3X5 mabye a 3X6 is the way to go. Although, I still feel uneasy about taking out the upper level as I like to keep the hay seperate. I think it gives more room for laps and makes the ground level a little tidier. I was wondering if anyone can show me their single level C&C'S?

Maybe have a look through this thread? :)
