I'm making a new cage for the pigs next week, and am ordering the supplies! I was planning to use the Songmics cubes, as many on here have recommended, but then I remembered that I've had cubes sitting in my garage for ages. Only thing is, they're solid and transparent instead of having grids (if that makes sense). They look like this:

I'm just wondering, would these be ok to use for a guinea pig cage? This is my first time building a C&C cage, and I don't know if they need the gridded cubes for breathability or something? Thanks in advance! :)

If you're worried about airflow, lots of places sell single or small packs of grids. Then you'll can just swap a couple out but if it's open topped, it shouldn't be necessary.
I was about to say that! I would be inclined to use at least a couple of wire ones to attach bottles and help air flow.

The plastic is light and useful, but a determined piggy could chew through it if he had a mind to. It just depends on the piggy. The squares are often slightly smaller than the wire grids Songmics also sells, which are unlikely to succumb to chewing.
