Another disaster which keep on coming at the moment. I have a couple of piggies in cage below and a couple in the cage above, the top c and c collapsed - the base did so the coroplast base fell to cage below, so the past 2 hours has been rescuing the pigs, cleaning the cages rebuilding top layer and finally putting the piggies back home. I have ordered 300 cable ties to help reinforce and they come today via amazon.

I was concerned at first as my youngest piggy - new sheltie sow was trapped under a grid but thankfully she was so small she was unhurt, the base of above cages fall was broken by the house/tunnel below. They do seem ok soon as I put them back in on brand new fleece they pooped all over it. I think it is weaker where the water bottles are because of their weight when full.

Hopefully no more bad luck, piggy keeping is stressful at moment

I’m sorry to hear that. I hope all piggies are ok.

Are you using reinforcing bars for your top c&c (that span the width of the cage) to support the top cage? If not, you can use some pieces of wood to offer support.

2 have been noisily at the water bottle so seem fine in themselves thanks. I dont' have anything across the width of cage, the gap between both is the grids at side and back, then top layer base and the rest. I will have to look up how to do the reinforcements

Good, I’m glad they are ok.
Definitely look for a couple of support bars for the top cage . Grids alone with the weight of hides, bottles, bouncy piggies is too much for grids to support.

I’m sorry this happened. I agree to reinforcing the base with supports. I had a stacked cage and bought two long pieces of wood to go the whole length of the cage (5x2). That definitely work well, even when the boys had a rare sprinting session. I also used the connectors and cable ties, everywhere.

I’m sorry this has happened to you. Usually if you are buying a loft set up from a seller or buying a stacked set up from a seller they will sell you the reinforcing bars to go under the upper level to support the base of the upper level.
Cable ties are helpful but you will need to reinforce the base of the upper level as coroplast alone isn’t strong enough to take all the weight if it is suspended without support. You can make your own support struts from wood or buy purpose made metal ones that span across the cage

Those bars are good. I used them when it was just the boys and they had a loft.
