Well I've finished my c & c cage! It is 4 x 3 with a 2 x 1 hayloft/snuggling area!
I have some vetbed for the downstairs, and a large wooden cabin for shelter. What else can I put in?
Come on guinea pig experts, what do your little friends like to play with/chew/hide in etc...?
I a a total newbie and would love some inspiration and maybe to see some pictures of what you have included in your cages.
Thanks in advance,
x

I like to change what I have in the cage regularly. cardboard boxes or paper bags filled with hay are good, or make tents from smaller bits of cardboard.

Old facecloths or other material pegged onto the corner of the cage make good hides without taking up floor space for the pigs to run around.

Post some photos of the cage to we see the piggy palace! :)

Mine love the cardboard tubes from wilkos and you know selotape, the cardboard that the tape is wrapped around they like throwing them up in the air and pulling them around (they also sometimes try and use them as a bolt hole, but they end up looking silly with a bit of cardboard round their bellies).

I bought a toasty maker at the weekend and to hold it in place in the box there was cardboard that had the shape of the toasty maker, they're making great little troughs. They're on the floor at the minute with one making a mess, they like to tip it over.

Anything light that they can throw around they tend to have a lot of fun with.

i have to keep my house pretty well much the same (have a diabetic blind piggie) but they love their cutoff wine bags (the ones you give as presents....the bags i mean) i cut them down and fill with hay.......as long as it's a cardboard one they can nibble with safety!
small hand towels are fab for them to lay on and snuggle into......or bury themselves under :))

hope to see pigtures x)

I would make sure that you had one hidey per guinea pig. In my experience they like to snuggle up but also have time for themselves.

Otherwise, leave space for play and switch around what to out in to keep them entertained - tunnels, hay or treat filled paper bags (always cut through any handles), cardboard boxes, piles of old rags or a towel pegged to the grid, hay filled toilet rolls on a string, perhaps a hammock, willow balls etc.

i wouldnt worry tooooo much about it love, i can almost guarantee you will change it at least 10 times in the next 6 months!

:))

mine have a hay rack, ball thing that you hang from the roof of the cage for them to get veggies out, they have a ball that they roll around to get treats out, they have noisy ball things to push around, but they're only allowed them during the day now because i got sick of listening to them jingling about in the middle of the night! and my cage is decked out with pretty beds from the piggy palace, cosy cavies and cavy couture. i love buying stuff for the piggys, they're so spoilt and i'm always skint because of it! haha! x

Yeh and they'll hate the thing you thought they'd love the most and love the think you thought they would find boring :) Just as you think you have it cracked and they love the set up....they'll change their minds about everything and if like mine, do a complete revamp overnight when you are'nt looking! Cheeky monkey's :))^)

Good links...mine love hammocks and the two piggy sofas I have bought them...but took a couple of weeks for them to get used to them, now I cannot remove them and they lounge around like they own the place (well I guess they do :(|))

Mine have the treat ball (first link) instead of a nugget bowl as well; great to keep them busy.

We've also got the hay ball (third link), but not using it at present till Nugget grows bigger.

AND a couple of the cavy couture beds; they get swapped around periodically for other things, forgot we had them till I seen your link. :))

I have plastic stools too, mine love to sleep under them, run through them and I make sure there is one for each of them. I also have tunnels, igloos, have used shoe boxes toilet rolls stuffed with hay and wooden chews dotted about.

Wow! Thank you jinnywig and ruledbyguineapigs for your links :))
and to every one else for some fab ideas.

Guinea pigs sound just like my boys! They never like the toys I think they will like and are quite happy with a box or some paint brushes and a bucket of water in the garden!

I think I am going to have some very spoilt piggies on my hands.

Rescue lady comes tomorrow and I am going to set the cage up so she can see how it will look. I'll take some pix :-) I hope she decides I have a suitable home to adopt some piggies!

As soon as I know if I am getting boys or girls I will definitely be getting some of these items! Ruledbyguineapigs your hammocks are awesome! I love them!

just toss two of everything in there they will rearrange it how they want it trust me. I clean and put the cage together all nicely and in ten minutes everything is upside down and what was there is now here and so on.
