as some of you know i live on a narrow boat so the cages that we have, had to be hand made to fit into the shape of the boat.

this is an old picture of the cages (i have since re painted them)

we also have another cage that goes ontop of these that my boyfriend has adapted so that we can put it on top of either cage depending which way round we are moored.

the boys are in the top cage and we now think that they are getting are bit big for it so we want to extend it. Steve is thinking of making a big c shape cage that goes across the top of both cages so that they get a nice window view. the only thing is i store all my animal stuff in the front locker and i think if we build a cage over the top of the locker then i will hit my head on it all the time.

we did think about making the girls cage into 2 tiers so we efectivley have 2 cages in one. obviously the boys wouldn't be able to get the girls as i don't want babies! my worry with this is that they would smell each other and get agitated. do you think this would happen?

any help greatly appreciated :)

at the minute they are fine. the girls lives in the left hand cage and ferret lives in the right hand cage. the boy piggies live in the top cage and live on either side depending on which way round we are moored. the girl piggies do not seemed fussed by the boy piggies. i have never heard them talking to each other. they seem to be happy in their own little worlds! :)

if the girls are in the same room they will know each other is there, so i should think you would be fine assuming they have got passed there terrible teenage hormone phase

If you can keep the boys from seeing ever the girls, they should be fine. Many rescues have boys living very close to girls without problems.

hello,

just an update. the boys were getting way too big for their cage so we did split the girls cage and touch wood they all seem fine. we were worried about light issues but everything is fine.

here are some pics of the cages
