Hi, we are the proud new owners of Peanut and Toffee, two gorgeous baby girls. We purchased the guinea pigs last week in the Ferplast 100 guinea pig cage measuring 46 x 95 x 57cm. It's quickly become obvious they need more indoor space to roam. Has anyone purchased an extension cage for this product (would another CC cage work to attach?). I am concerned the guinea pigs would have to jump over the high base of the Ferplast to get into an extension cage. Any help would be appreciated for a novice owner. Thank you Maria x

The RSPCA minimum welfare cage size for two sows is 120cm x 60cm, but if you can provide bigger than that, then it is definitely better.
Adding an extension to it using c&c grids is a viable option and something which many people who find themselves in your situation do.
you can make a ramp over the ferplast base, or use bendy wood bridges
Ramps in Cages

Thank you so much, that is so helpful ahead of investing. I am assuming most pigs don't have a concern about climbing ramps? Are bendy wood bridges sold in pet shops? Thank you.

Whether they will use a ramp is entirely piggy dependent, but making sure a ramp is shallow in gradient can help. Yours, as it is just going over a ferplast base, should be absolutely fine.

the bendy logs are sold as hides but being bendy can be made into bridges very easily . This is the kind of thing you are looking for. They come in multiple sizes so youlll want a large one

I agree with the above. Alternatively you could make a c&c cage if you are worried about the ramp. Minimum is 2 grids by 4 grids but they love space so it doesn't matter if you make it bigger. You can keep the cage as transport cage if you like 🙂

When you and pigs are ready, we'd love to see some pictures :)

Hi, I’m looking at enclosures for a pair of sows. Anyone with the Ferplast CASITA 120, what’s your opinions on it? Would you recommend it?

I don’t have it, but if you can go bigger then that’s better. It looks like the dimensions are actually 119 x 58. And bearing in mind it slopes towards the base, it doesn’t meet the minimum requirements.

Some have the ferplast plaza...I think.

I've gone through so many cages in the past 3 months (Since I purchased my first guinea pigs) I've gone through 4 cages. The first one was way too small. The second one was outdoors. and the third one was cool, very expensive but didn't provide enough space for my herd. When you have a cage too small (even if it's just slightly smaller than the ideal requirements, believe me it creates issues even cute little sows can be very territorial! I'd save yourself a lot of money and hassle and I'd go with a homemade C&C, my guinea pigs love them and they all get on SO MUCH BETTER since they've been given the extra space. If you look at some really interesting youtube videos you can see some amazing designs. I'm planning to create a 3 story c&c. Plus, they're actually really cheap if you make them yourself and buy the correx of ebay! All the best! :)

When I was looking for a cage i almost got the casita 120 as it looked big, but its smaller sq foot than a 2 x 3 C&C. and then making one 2x4 is cheaper than the casita 120 by around half.

i forgot to add that this 2 x 4 houses 2 sows

Thanks for all your suggestions. I live with my parents who have said that a 120x60cm, commercial cage the largest I can go sadly. They have told me though that i can give them daily floortime. Is this more acceptable. I'm sure when the space is looking tight, my parents will realise and let me upgrade. At the moment, they just cant see it being too small.

I think you have to work on the basis that they may not change their minds. They would definitely need daily floor time if they were to live in a cage that size. Hopefully you can slowly change your parents’ minds and get something bigger.
