Hi everyone

Not sure this is being posted in the right place so sorry if it isn't.

what does everyone do with their piggies when they have them out of their cage/hutches? and how do you cope with all the pee and poop :))

At the moment my boys come in and sit on our laps. They are coming in for the winter in a few weeks and so I'd like them to be able to run around in the house and for my daughter to be able to interact with them more.

I have an indoor wire pen that is just a pain because it's too small to create a proper run and my son drives me mad climbing in and out of it!

I am thinking of sectioning off an area of lounge, hallway or using the landing as they'll be living upstairs (don't worry the stairs are blocked off!). The hallway is laminate as is the lounge if I take up the rug and the landing is carpet. My boys poop constantly which is not a problem, just pick it up and pop it in a nappy bag/down the loo. The only problem is when they decide to pee over everything. I've tried putting down old towels but they soon end up in a big pile or they go underneath to pee, plus my youngest (20 months) just picks the towels up and then we have poo everywhere!

I am not a total clean freak I just want a solution that enables the piggies to run around, the children to play with them and no one to sit in a pile of stinky boy pee :)>>>

I was thinking of letting them run around in our hallway which is quite big and then just be on hand with the kitchen towel but not sure if laminate is a bit too slippy

Thanks

x

Misty likes to run in our hallway. It has a wooden floor so I put down newspaper, boxes for her to play in and piles of hay. She doesn't slip on the paper and at the end I roll it up with her 'presents' and hay and then mop the floor.

A fun time is had by all! :))

Pigtures?! xx

Try a picnic rug, the type with the waterproof backing.
Give it a shake outside and when needed pop it in the wash... I find they come in handy :)

Great suggestions thanks :)

I'll see how they get on with newspaper to start with and then maybe invest in picnic blankets - soak up pee and cushion the floor so sounds a great idea.

They will also be a bit heavier than towels so a bit harder for a pain in the bum toddler to fiddle with :))

You could put a couple of old towels down or old blanket..anything you an shake off and wash..

I use a big fleece blanket.

Hi sonia

As I said in my first post I have tried towels but they just end up bunched up in a corner or picked up and chucked around by my son!

I'll have a scout around in the airing cupboard and see if I can popper any old blankets together to make a thick carpet type base and they can be taken apart to go in the wash

Hi Claire,

Oh yes i see your dilemma...erm will have a think hun xx

How about cheap carpet tiles you could make a big square up and they can be rinsed in bath every now and then.

I gave up on trying to put anything on the floor as it just ended up in the corner! I have let them run around on the bare floor, putting paper over the wee puddles when they appear :)) Thankfully they haven't run through any of it so I don't have wet piggies.

Kids love having them running about :)

Lovely piggies, looks like they're having fun! Here's some additional info in a video format on setting up floor-time (proofing, toys, hideys, etc.)
