Hello! My boy is leaving behind sometimes dusty white spots. I am wondering where am i wrong with his diet as i do not want to cause long term problems? I know what are the veggies high in calcium and i don't really feed them, however i don't know what's wrong. Haven't fed him parsley leaves like in a week, spinach in like 3-4 days, dandelion at all. I usually feed him cucumber, cabbage, broccoli, bell pepper, carrot, parsley root, parsnip root, kohlrabi, radish, butterhead letuce, celery root, tomatoes and the hay i do not know what type is as my dad is preparing it specially for them. Just beautiful looking grass cut and dried. I feed oxbow pellets for adult guinea pigs. Writing down this list i saw parsley root and i guess this is problematic. What else is causing problems from that list and i should take it away? I have a 4 mo little girl that is eating the same but doesn't have the same problem.

Dusty calcium wee happens. Rub it between fingers if is gritty then that is an issue if powdery then it is fine

I think broccoli is quite high in calcium, I was told to eat plenty as my bone density is quite thin due to steroid treatment a few years back.

I was told not to give my newest Rainbow Piggie Velvet (I had to help her to The Bridge 2 days ago) brocolli cos it was high in calcium and she passed a bladder stone a week or so before I helped her to the bridge.

Yes I agree broccolli is supposed to be high calcium! Any cabbagy type stuff should be a once or twice a week treat and only a small amount!

So sorry for your loss. xx

Thanks it was the right thing to do and she was telling me she needed to sleep and only wake up in Rainbow World.

For the last 3 - 4 days my pig it's been only on hay, cucumber, tomato, carrot, bell pepper, low calcium pellets and parsnip root. Sometimes he makes white dusty spots and you cannot pick anything up from it and sometimes there is a little bit of white thick discharge. Now, i cut everything that i thought might cause the excess calcium and yet.... Need to say he isnt crying when peeing or anything, he behaves normal

Calcium wee happens when piggies filter any unneeded calcium out. It’s a natural process and like people said, it happens sometimes. Your pig sounds healthy otherwise. If you’re concerned maybe look into the type of hay you’re using. Otherwise, if your pig is healthy and not in pain, hunched up etc. then he sounds okay 🙂
