Has anyone taken their guinea pig camping in a tent? We're going at the end of September in Pennsylvania it won't get too hot or to cold (high 70° low 50°) it will be a short trip of 4 days would love to include my baby in the fun! thoughts?

Holidaying with Guinea Pigs

no problem, your guinea pig is lovely too :luv:

I went to camping in the Alps with my piggie long ago; we had an igloo tent and the camping was at 1300mt (altitude); the temperature in the night was 8°C into the tent. I had a little baby and this piggie but we had the right equipment and nothing bad could happen about the weather. We stayed there 20 days.
The only issue is that during the day you are out for the trips and the piggie is alone... You cannot keep him into the tent, considering that under the sun the tent become very hot inside. You need to keep him outdoor... and the children of the camping will come around... That might be a risk; I used to leave my piggie's cage next to the tent of my neighbour who also had a pet.
Everything is possible, I started going camping in tent (mountain) with a daughter only 2 months old. But you have to think about everything, you should know the camping in advance, chosing a pitch with a bit of shadow and far from the passage of other people.

Thank you so much! This was very helpful! The weather will be very mild and shade should not be an issue, he will not be left alone long as we only plan to hike around where our camp will be set up. Again, I really appreciate your input.

you will have a great holiday, no doubt! take a lot of pics and short movies, it will be a lovely memory...
(for the journey, don't worry: we had to drive 8 hours that time and other 10 hours (for long queues) for coming back home... and the whole journey (10+8 hours) with this song (and others from the same cartoon):

but behind us the daughter and the piggie were relaxed and happy (the piggie ate hay and fresh grass picked up from the lawns, when possible).
Of course switch on air conditioning even if you are not hot. Babies and piggies need a cool temperature for being relaxed.

I'm sure my piggy and will have fun time! He's my baby, feeling much more at ease taking him along :) Thank you!
