I agree, but people are still going to do it, your not going to stop them just because your views are different. Like people saying dont buy from petshops quite annoy me, there are still guineas in there in need of a loving home. Whats going to happen to them if know one buys them. People are entitled to do the things they want, no one is going to make a difference in this world I'm afraid.

Am I getting it in the neck here?:{ it's a bit late but I'm not quite sure what's going on@), I'm merely pointing out that reporting the post isn't exactly appropriate, although, we, guinea lovers, feel strongly about people breeding without background knowledge...

I meant stupid to start breeding and think it's a good idea (I guess, for money).

Of course your not you silly thing, just voicing my opinon on it for once, ive always held my tongue but today felt brave :) Xx
 
That's good news (if they mean it :)). If everyone was like them and actually thought about it first and wanted to learn/ask questions then there would be a lot fewer piggies in rescues :)

You see everyone, you were all being pretty harsh to this person who wanted to breed, they were doing their research and now they have found out the bad reasons they are bit going to breed! mallethead They are obviously sensible not stupid! :{
 
I don't really get it, I don't think the person was being stupid. If they want to breed then that's their choice.

Obviously, I think they should get guinea pigs as pets first for a few years so they know how to look after them, and do their research in books and on the internet, even talk to breeders first. But they were doing research, and would probably have done more after this. They did seem to care from the questions they asked (they weren't just like, how many babies do they have, how much money do you make.)

There's really not much money to be made from guinea pigs so I think they probably just wanted to do it as a hobby.
 
it's good to see there are many people care for piggies but just hope we are not going to become a bit fanatic about it.

My reason for posting this in the first place was not to be harsh. I have no issues with responsible breeders, three of mine came from them.

My issue with the ad was the fact they wanted to breed but hadn't even had guineas as pets before, so were unlikely to know even how to sex them let alone the issues arising with breeding.

I posted it as I don't have a preloved account and wanted someone who does to contact them and advise.

I do, I felt the way they were going about their venture was naive and could have dreadful results. I'm happy though that the person has been discouraged.

I'd just like to point out that my original point was that the post on PL wasn't the type to be reported. I guess I didn't choose my wording carefully enough, but at the end of the day, English is not my first language, so I'm prone to making the odd faux-pas.

It's definitely a weird way to get information, and not a very good way because people could give them wrong information. But I guess they wanted to hear from other breeders.
 
Hi Mrs M,i agree it did look like you was getting it in the neck for a sec but i think people are very strong with their opinions at times.The add is asking for advice on keeping guineas & breeding so not illeagal.At least their trying to research before they jump in,who knows perhaps they want to breed for themselves and have a genuine love for guineas.Maybe by trying to help or educate people like this would be better than attacking.Know I'm going to get it in the neck!sue
