I have just taken 22 guinea pigs off somone who isn't coping with them. They are all very underweight, have gunky eyes, some can't walk properly, i have just left one at the vets as he is slowly starving to death because his teeth are too long to eat, he also have blood coming from both of his eyes.

Anyway she said things have got on top of her and she is really worried about them, (not to worried to take to the vets though). She says she has another 50 at home, yes you read right she still has 50 after giving me 22.

She lives in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, i think she will travel a reasonable distance to rehome them. Be careful with her though as she said that once i had got a certain 4 back to health could she have them back and swap them for other ill ones for her as she really liked these 4!

Tillythepig has offered help and he is going to ring her so hopefully he will be able to take some.

Is there any other rescue nearish that could help. Thanks

Wait a minute...

She said to you that once you spent your (rescues?) money and time and energy getting pigs that SHE let become so horribly sick better that she wants her favourite four back?

In what level of reality is that even partially okay? How selfish!

"Oh, here are a bunch of guinea pigs I neglected the basic right of veterinary care too, but... umm... can I have some back when they get better please! I luffs them!"

I hope you told her to do a cartwheel and are setting the RSPCA on her to have her banned from ever so much as glancing at another animal again.

Is she 'getting rid' of all of them... i.e is she giving up breeding? If not I fear she'll just carry on... poor piggies.

I'm sorry I can't help but I hope they're ok

Sorry not able to help but I would perhaps contact your local RSPCA Inspector and maybe a co ordinated rescue could take place. I'm not sure of your facilities but there must be other rescues around that can help out.

Hope all goes well with them all. Sadly this type of thing is all too common and there have been several cases this year already like this. Poor piggies.

Sue,

I have room for a couple, i don't mind taking ones that need a lot of ongoing care. I am not a rescue as such, but i take on lots of abandoned ones that are left on my doorstep8... and i help the vet out with their strays.
They normally stay with me, although if i can re-home some to GOOD homes i might.

Anyway, i am in Herts, so not too far - if you need me, let me know.

Best of luck with the poorly ones.

Ali

Hi Sue
Tilly the pig is a he lol I am sure Alan will do all he can, echo what sophie says about breeding if they have many left there the problem may well just continue.
Afraid the budget for the rescue is very poorly after the vet bills for Fanny adams lot, plus we are at capacity once babies arrive from 2 sows who came in pregnant so am afraid I can't help.
have you contacted Rona and Alison they rescue around the cambridge area they are associated with Vedra and have helped us in the past.

I could foster one or two until they're back to health? Wouldn't be able to until the start of next month though as I'm away next Wednesday till the following Monday and a friend is looking after my four.
Might not be of much use, I'm sorry, but please feel free to PM me if I can do anything to help.

All I can suggest is contact Bobtails rescue in Surrey (I volunteer there, contact details via their website)
as I know they have travelled distances before to conduct a large rescue...can't hurt and at the very least, if you get to speak to Delia or Jim they can advise you how to go about things as she sounds like a slippery customer....wanting the healthy pigs back to breed from them again no doubt rolleyes

My thoughts exactly rolleyes

On a more practical note, we can't take any more in long term, but may possibly be able to take part in a piggie run if anyone in this area is taking any.

OMG this spounds awfull and i wish it was closer to me i would be straight there.
I Hope others are able to help

I have been calling her number every 20mins since sue contacted me but with no luck at the moment.

Vikki, i know Tillthepig is male, though i didn't till i phoned him. Took me by surprise as was expecting a female. lol

Teadragon, i was really shocked when she said this to me. The more i think about iot the more angry i get. She is using me as a vet. So i pay out of my own pocket and then she gets back a helathy guinea pig. I won't say what i think or i will get banned!

Thnaks for all your suggestions i will get on to the other rescue's that have been suggested.

It does worry me she will get rid of this lot, have a little time off then start breeding again, but what can i do. These pigs really need help and i couldn't bear to leave her to it.

Try going to her house and using a mallet
*cough*

oh, where on earth did that come from :)

Hi

Poor little things, if I was closer I would be able to help with transport.

If any have to come North let me know and I might be able to help.

Hope they all make it, and she should be reported to the RSPCA.

help

hi I'm jenny from birmingham i could take a few guniea pigs if * cold get them to me if its not to far

Incases like this it is best to remove them all at the same time. As she has had contact with Sue, would it be best for Sue to say she can take them all and those of us able to help go at the same time as "Sue's helpers"

I have space for some, and would be prepared to help with a co-ordinated rescue.

I worry that if it does not happen in this manner we will all be unable to get hold of her.

It would also make sense to say that we need the hutches to put them in even if we just burn them.

Maybe we could fundraise on here to cover cost of van to enable this to happen

I understand what you are saying but as with most things in life you cannot just go bursting in and insist they hand the animals over...As i currently have four holes in me from an operation last week i certainly couldnt make it to her's and i dont think it would be the right approach given her attitude etc with Sue.

frustrating but still hoping.

it is very frustrating i have tried ringing and nothing. All i can do is email her. Regarding the ones i took off her one died overnight, one has ringworm, a couple with cystitis, one is pregnant, 98% have gunky eyes, all are very underweight.

Thinking of you. A worrying time, at least many of them are being cared for already. You're doing a fantastic job.

Sorry not able to help but sending you lots of support. I know the frustrations of working with difficult people - I'm only just coming out the "other end" of my horrible rescue in March.

Sadly, we just can't help every single one. We can only do our very best and make a difference to those in our care. I'm sure the woman will be in touch when the time is right for her.

:) :) :)

Yes, very frustrating when you hear about piggies desperately in need and then the owner goes cold and disappears! :(

But I have to echo what has been said above that it is extremely worrying that the owner thinks that some can be nursed back to health and then returned to her :{

Sue,

I can still take some if you need me to. Let me know if i can help, i'm not too far from you.

Ali

Is there something you can do? like call the police for animal abuse? because if they are that sick then I dunno about the uk but here in canada you can be charged with abuse for not treating a sick and suffering animal. I would find out because even if it is a slap on the hands and a fine she might be told she can't own/breed anymore piggies.

can anyone who has offered help or is even considering offering help keep in touch regarding this rescue, having spoken to sue this evening there are a lot more animals than first thought and many are not in very good condition so will need several weeks to bring back around to full health.

I have offered to take 30,24 for myself and six for another local rescuer who is full as it is.

I'm sure sue appreciates the messages etc but it is going to be a daunting task for her.

rspca west suffolk branch.

Thanks Al, yes is a daunting task, just in desperate need to get the pigs away.

Have just taken on an offer of a neighbour who will foster 2 pairs of my healthy pigs so i can take in more of this womans.

In total she has 203, she was surprised when she counted, you can imagine what me and Al said!
Amentalcat has kindly offered to take some as well.
