Just wondering if small children could catch any sort of worms from guinea pigs (if the guinea pig had them in the first place).I didn't think they could, and I didn't think worms could be passed from a cat or dog to a human, but our vets seem to have posters up implying that that is the case (regarding cats and dogs ) .I know there is some sort of parasite in cat faeces (cant spell it ) that causes toxoplasmosis, and some sort of parasitic thing that can affect sight - but was just wondering - anyone know ? Auntie Amanda possibly ?

Interesting. I don't think that endoparasites of guineas are likely to be a risk to people but I will look this up next week. Guineas are not great carriers of worms really in domestic situations, they can get a few parasites common to other animals though. The only time I would expect a problem is in guineas that had been kept in very poor conditions & had a lot of access to poor grazing outdoors.

The worms in cat & dog poo that cause a problem with blindness is due to a certain life stage of the worm migrating around the body, very nasty :(.

Hello,

I know that at my friends vet they told my friend that all of their veterinary nurses would have worms because of them handling animals every day. My friend then went and got some worming tablets from sainsburys and sure enough she did have them and her daughter. She does only have dogs and cats but if guinea pigs get worms them we could easily catch them too.
