reason being is i am thinking of selling my 3 tiered cages which are 120cm long as they currently house 2 boars in one cage, 1 boar in the middle and 2 girls on the bottom
i was thinking of getting 3 x 140 cages to replace it as i would like bigger for my 2 boars plus i have a trio of sows that would also go into a 140cm, and for the third i would like to put my single boar in on his own and try pairing up with another boar sometime rather than have him castrated as dont want to chance it as wouldnt want to lose another pig after loosing one last week after castrastion
i would prefer a 150 cage for the 2 boars and the single boar for his pairing but the difference in the price for the 2 sizes are around £90 which doesnt make sense, there is someone selling the r6 150 cage on ebay for £85 so maybe one day when i have access to a car i could take the 4 hour drive to get 3 of them but not sure if these can be stacked either, we dont have the space to expand outwards only upwards and c&c are not an option as we have cats and a dog

I dont think they are strong enough to take the weight of each other at all , id possibly have two stacked but by the third the weight on the bottom cage will be massive and will bend the bars.

When I was putting mine together my brother leant on the cage bars at the top and they bent straight away

C&C can be built up but youd need tonnes of grids to make it cat proof!

ok do you know how strong the r6 cages are as that would be another option maybe having 2 of those on top then the ferplast 140
thanks

I know someone who had two 100's on top of eachother (not the same i know) but he did it so the one the bottom was out a bit from the wall and the top one was back against the wall slightly on it to relieve some weight, I'm not sure if that makes sense but it works well, probably not idea for 3 cages though
A C&C for that many piggies would probably be quite difficult what with having a cat etc. but you could try building a simple wooden frame to support all 3 cages ? just a drill and some wood, you can custom build it then anyway you like, or just use furniture you have or in charity shops, i managed to get a nice little coffee table for my shop bought cage that way i have storage underneath etc. (:

** ALSO ! the r6 and r5 cages i have the 100cm version and i think they are quite strong, better then the ferplast anyways, but they are alot taller then the ferplast !

or another option would be 2 140s on top of each other and a third could go on top of my beardies tank when he has a 4 foot tank as that would hold the weight of the piggies
is it you bekki2308 who has a 140 for 2 boars, the 2 we have together are very close but watching them running about last night think they would like the extra space

Sorry no idea about the r6.

If you put some hardboard on top of each ferplast to spread the weight better you might be able to stack them but its an expensive gamble

at the back right you can see where the the cage is bent from really gently leaning on it

I do have 2 boars in the cage :-) well remembered! its the same as a 4x2 c&c cage in size. - iif you get them and want them higher the units my cage is sat on are £8 each from wilkinsons and its rock stead on them! having them on those units means when I kneel down on my knees I can reach the entire cage withouth bending my back so no backache!

Smaller cages are stronger, I have a super cheap 80cm cage and its super super strong but its much smaller so the stress on each bar is a lot less so its seriously more sturdy, id put tonnes of weight on it and it doesnt bent at all

What about putting up some heavy duty shelving for the 2nd and 3rd cages - all still above each other. You would need to use "L" shaped wall brackets and then a large sheet of ply/wood, probably need 3 or 4 brackets for that length/weight of cage. Cages 2 and 3 could then just slot onto their allocated shelves. You would need to make sure it's a structural wall not just a stud partion otherwise the lot is likely to come down on top of you! Alternatively it might be possible to get some adjustable racking system that the cages could sit on?

Good luck.

yeah that sounds like a good idea the trouble is where we have the room for a 140 or 150 cage even the wall in the middle is part false as it has been changed from a doorway to a hatch
have been looking at the c&c cages photos on here and some are fab and have given me some ideas
either thinking of somehow trying to stack a c&c 3 tiered or just go for 2 150 commercial cages and get a table or build something for the 2nd one to go on top for boy pair and single boy
and have a single 140 cage elsewhere for 3 girls, if it would be big enough for 3 girls?

I have 2 ferplast 140s on top of each other fine. Not tried 3 though.

If you're concerned about bars bending, you could put a wooden board across the top of each cage before putting the next one on top?

I have a Liberta R6 whatever they are, the huuuge one. The one I have is very strong and sturdy, but not stackable as the metal frame is built into the cage.

This is the one I have http://www.cagesworld.co.uk/p/Liberta_Extra_Large_Rabbit_Retreat_-_Cage_and_Stand.htm, it cannot be set up without the legs.

Alternatively, do they do a 140 2 tier? You could remove the ramp and block up the hole, and have 2 levels, with a single 140 on top.

thanks for that amanda i didnt know they do a 140 2 tier, dont suppose you know where you can get them from?
