Can guinea pigs and rabbits safely share the same airspace?

I'm looking into boarding places to take Eddie and Elvis when I go away for a week in August and I went to look at a place today that mainly focusses on boarding for bunnies but they do piggies as well. Everything seemed great except the piggies and bunnies would be in the same room. They would be in separate hutches and would never be put together but would be opposite each other.

I'm worried about them catching bordetella as it sounds quite serious. Is there a risk of this if they are sharing the same airspace?

Thanks in advance :)

(I wasn't sure if health and illness was the right section to post this in so sorry if it's not)

It’s not advised, including by the Rabbit Welfare Association, to have rabbits and piggies in the same airspace.

As a rabbit and piggy owner myself, I do everything I can to ensure there is never any risk of cross contamination between them, including ensuring they aren’t in the same airspace

What is the likelihood of a rabbit carrying bordetella and passing it onto Eddie or Elvis?
I've looked through all the boarding places near me and none of them are guinea pig only so it's entirely possible that Eddie and Elvis would end up sharing a room with rabbits :(

I'm sorry I don't know, but I think I'd phone them all and ask if the piggies could be in a separate room with handwashing between piggy and rabbit care, in line with the Rabbit Welfare Association advice.
It seems quite likely one of them would have space and be willing to do that, unlike the one you saw?

I have been using a boarding service where they also have rabbits for the past 3 years, As far as i am aware they have never had any cross-infection between the two species. However, they do have very high hygiene standards and strict rules around vaccinations.

I think it is very difficult to find anywhere, other than maybe a Guinea Pig Rescue, where they only board piggies.

My dad's going to see another bigger place today so hopefully they'll have room for piggies to be in a separate room. I'll make sure he asked about their hygiene standards.

I have managed to find one just piggies boarding place but I'm waiting for them to get to me 🤞

Are the rabbits in the same room as the piggies?

I’ve always boarded my piggies at a local small pet hotel. They do have piggies and bunnies in the same airspace but the rooms are large and well ventilated and their hygiene standards are second to none. They do not share the same floor space or any of the same equipment. As far as I am aware they have not had any cross infection between the species.

That's good to know, thank you. The one I saw yesterday was a small room with piggies and bunnies directly opposite. I wouldn't be comfortable taking my boys there.
