Can Guinea Pigs Catch Fleas?

My cat is currently being treated for fleas. I just wondered whether it is possible for my guinea pigs to catch the fleas? They live in our lounge and our cat spends a lot of time in there.

I have told the vet that I can't use RIP Fleas room spray in our house as it is toxic to the guinea pigs, so she has advised me to hoover twice a day. I will use the spray on my cat's scratching post and tree bed which is in the other room, but I don't want to be spraying it all over the house.

I change the guinea pig bedding every 2-3 days.

Fleas, like all skin parasites, are species specific. They can at the worst shortly affect your piggies, but as they cannot survive on guinea pigs, the fleas will quickly abandon ship and should never be more of a short term nuisance at the worst. Guinea pigs do not have species specific fleas.
