COVID-19 Can guinea pigs get COVID-19

There's no current evidence of this, and it's very unlikely. It is possible for a virus to jump from species to species (and this is how it became an issue for humans in the first place, but the host species is, as yet unidentified). There have been cases where it's jumped to felines, which are far more similar to humans. There have also been cases early in the pandemic where canines tested positive, but it's thought this is likely just cross contamination.

Can They I am very curious I don’t have COVID-19 but if I somehow I contracted it would I need to stay away from my piggies

Hi!

Guinea pigs don't get Covid-19 but you should still use the usual good hygiene (hand washing and not lots of kissing) and preferably stay away from them/move them out of your room if you show any symptoms and don't feel well; the same as with any other infectious illness (bad cold, flue, norovirus etc.) and most definitely if you have strept throat or another streptococcal infection or salmonella, as those can pass onto guinea pigs.

You can find any Covid related information at the top of our Coronavirus section. Practical and more detailed tips on what to do if you have Covid or are ill in this link here: COVID-19 - Worried about Covid-19 (coronavirus) transmission risk to your cavies and care during illness?
