Hi,

I have read the information about vegetables. I wonder whether these vegetables are suitable for daily feeding. See link to Dutch websites behind it, because I have doubts about the English translation.

- Chicory
Witlof
- Endive Andijvie

I read a lot about lettuce, but this is not always easy to obtain in the Netherlands or very expensive. There is always chicory and endive.

Thanks!

I don’t know about endive but I do know that some people in the same situation as you feed chicory daily!

I know they’re similar but i’m not 100% sure on it.

Hello guinea pigs can have chicory and endive but only a few times a week.
Could you grow the ‘ cut and come again ‘ lettuce ? ….you plant the lettuce seeds in a tray and cut what you need and it will keep growing - you can place the tray on a windowsill.
Obviously hay is the most important so veggies play a small part in their diet.
Forage ( dry plants) is a great way to give them entertainment

Hi! Just wondering why chicory should only be fed a couple times a week (genuine question)

I used to have a few guinea pig friends from different countries such as Netherlands and their piggies ate veg like that as a daily substitute for things like lettuce.

I would call the first green Belgian Endive (Cichorium intybus var. foliosum) and the second one Escarole (Cichorium endivia var. latifolia), based on the pictures.

Both are from the chicory family (Cichorium spp.), as opposed to the lettuce family (Lactuca spp.), which, if I remember correctly, tend to be higher in calcium, which is why one has to be more careful when feeding, since they can have higher potential of causing kidney/bladder stones.
