Can I get another guinea pig that's younger than my current?

I've been waiting for my humane society to have guinea pigs available so I can adopt a second guinea pig. Today I noticed the humane society has four new male guinea pigs. I need a male guinea pig because my current guinea pig is a boy. My current guinea pig, Nickel, is 1 year old (today is his birthday!) but the four male guinea pigs at the humane society are all only two months old. Will this be an issue if I get one of the guinea pigs or does the age matter?

As @Mother Hubbard said, compatibility is more important than age.
Does your Humane society do boar dating?
That can help your boy choose his own companion.

You might want to read the bonding threads on the forum- I believe that teenage boars can get awkward but I have sows so never had to cope with that issue.

Chances are they will get on well but still try to match their personalities. You need a laid back youngster if your piggy is dominant and vice versa if he is submissive. You can usually tell the dominant piggies even in baby boars. There is always the risk of fall outs as the baby grows but if you have got the personalities right then they should get through this. Your shelter should be able to help you choose the right friend
