Hi

I'm a new guinea owner and wondered if they could eat things like sunflower and pumpkin seeds? Has anyone tried their guinea's with them and what did they think? Just trying to mix up their treats a bit - I give daily greens, their favourites are spinach and parsley and green beans. They don't seem to be bothered with carrot or white cabbage much so tend to give the darker greens. I've tried them with apple and celery (would not even touch it). Just trying to think of other things to mix up their treats so suggestions welcome.

:D Hello Louise S. In answer to your question, No. Guinea pigs should not eat seeds. Not quite sure why, maybe because of the possibility of choking on them. Shop-bought treats that are made of seeds stuck together with honey should be avoided as well.

I don't give seeds because of the choking risk with them. Mine seem pretty happy with various kinds of lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, some fruit like cantaloupe, apples, grapes, and stuff like that. Peppers are supposed to be very healthy, but my pigs won't touch them! Keep on trying stuff, even if they wouldn't eat it before... sometimes they will accept a new food that they have previously rejected.

l agree with freela, though they will do no harm (as far as being poisones go's) acording to a well know gp keeper , who is also a chemist ,
