Compressed hay comes in two forms: compressed in packaging, and compressed into 'cookies'.

The one that is fine to feed is compressed in the packaging, so you get a lot of hay packed very tightly together into much, much smaller packaging than would be needed if it was not compressed. You then remove the hay as needed from the packaging and it's still long loose strands. It's just been squashed into the packaging to save on storage space!

I would say the compressed hay you were warned against are the hay cookies. These are fine strands of hay compressed, they are not loose hay and are unlikely to have the same benefits as loose hay.

I hope that makes sense!
