Can the tan gene change eye colour?

Hi,
I've just gone to get 3 slateblue and slateblue tan US Teddy's from Germany (I live in Belgium).
Normally a slate blue should have dark eyes with a red tinge. Which the two slate blues have. But the slate blue tan has almost khaki brown eyes. He's a definite slate blue. Does anyone know if the tan gene can affect the eye colour? Or would anyone have an explanation (not a guess!)
