Ive been feeding my guinea pigs gem lettuce, and I’ve got a few leaves left of the whole thing and I was wondering if I could just put the whole thing in for them as a treat? So is it safe for them to eat it all? Thanks :)

Lettuce has a very high water content and could give your guins the runs. So I wouldn't give them too much! What other veg do they get other than lettuce?

Okay, thank you! At the moment I’ve been feeding them a mix of gem lettuce (typically only one leaf a day) butterhead lettuce, carrot, broccoli, and green peppers. I don’t think it’s a very balanced diet at the moment but they haven’t had vegetables before I got them so I’m having to introduce them slowly!

At least they're getting a few different types though, that's good. And you can increase the range gradually.

Here is a thread with some food advice:

50g of veg per pig per day.
Watery veg includes lettuce and cucumber.
Carrot has a lot of sugar.
They need pepper for the vitamin c.
Broccoli and parsley are high in calcium.
I tend to give them a mix or variation of these veggies.
I tend to give 2 small lettuce leaves from a little gem or butterhead lettuce a day. 1 leaf if it's big.

I’m giving them 2 cups of vegetables at the moment, so I think that’s about the same? Thank you! I ebeen feeding them one large leaf of gem lettuce, and some smaller butterhead leaves :)

A cup in the morning and a cup at night?

We feed ours this roughly

Morning:
Cucumber -1.5 cm x 2cm chunks (twice)
Celery - 1 stick between 3 chopped up small
1/6th of Red/Green/Yellow Bell Pepper (de-seeded)

Evening:
Cucumber 1.5 cm x 2cm chunks (twice)
Two Little Gem Lettuce leaves or 10 sprigs Coriander. Twice a week we will swap in cabbage or parsley

We also add in to the above diet carrot, sweet potato, celery leaves and a few other things occasionally

I measure out 2 cups of food in the morning and then give it to them in three meals (I suspect that one piggy may be eating all the food so it might help feeding them 3x a day instead of 2) Thank you! I haven’t tried mine with cucumber yet but I’m going to this week if that’s something they can have often :)

I weigh mine. I'm daft. :)
I'm not an expert so I'm very careful.

At the moment mine are getting (between 5 of them) about half a Romaine lettuce (probably about 7 or 8 leaves), half a pepper, about 3 inches of cucumber, one stick of celery and a bit of whatever else I have (at the moment coriander and a couple of small leaves from a cauliflower. Can also be a couple of baby carrots, a small handful of blueberries, a bit of apple, green beans, broccoli or such like) It's just their luck what I've got in for myself lol). I don't actually measure it out though, I just cut it all up and divide it between the bowls, so some days they hit the jackpot, and others they have to eat more hay :shh:. Can't wait till the grass starts growing again and I can wean them back on to that instead.
