Reading up on Facebook. And an 'expert' has put that she gives her Guinea pigs flavoured water. Apperantly they like the strawberry&Peach flavour best.
Now i dont know if they can have this. So I'm not going to try it. Until i get a second opinion. This so called 'expert' has given crap advice out from day one. So I'm waiting to see what you guys think..
Has anyone else ever given their piggies this?

My first instinct would be no - mainly because of the sugar content - it's not something i'd buy/give to my pigs :{

My daughter used to take flavoured water to school - she was told that she either had plain water (from the in school water machines) or she went without a drink - their stance on the topic was that flavoured water contained too many additives/sugar and made the children 'hyper-active'

It would never occur to me to give my guinea pigs anything other than plain ol' tap. Are there supposed to be benefits from doing this? Is the "expert" just doing this for a treat?
Personally, I would just give them fruit and water.

I don't think that it is a good idea to give anything that contains a lot of sugar and/or artificial sweeteners and flavours.

Rather give them plain water and fresh fruit twice weekly! A bit of melon for example is a dead cert in this hot weather!

Hmm...

I really wouldnt of thought that flavoured water would be any good for piggies because of the sugar content.

Doesnt sound like much of an expert to me!

She thinks she is as she's bred them for over 20yrs.
But wont allow people selling guinea pigs on her page as theres too many in rescue(Only certain people that she knows).
Work that one out?!? mallethead

This has never even occurred to me. She probably thinks it is good because it might help them drink more due to the flavour...But if an animal is healthy and stuff they will drink as much as they need mallethead

What is she on about.

Think I can guess who you're talking about .... mallethead

Yep, you got it.!
I honestly dont listen to anything she tells people.
Her 'advice' is crap. lol x

Flavoured water can come in 2 forms, with sugar or sugar-free. Sugar = bad, so thats a straight no. Sugar-free means that other chemicals such aspartame are used to sweeten it. Aspartame is bad for humans, so what makes anyone think it would be any better for a guinea pig? Silly woman.

Why do some people believe that because there pigs haven't died from something it must be good for them and then go an recommend it to everyone ....

rolleyes

people will never fail to amuse me with there 'advice'

She also recommends to use XENO(I think its called that) for small dogs&rabbits to stop them getting mites. But you must only use 1drop as it may overdose them..
I dont know if anyone else uses it but i certainly wouldnt risk it lol

What a wally! One of my guinea pigs, that I got from a rescue, were told by it's previous owner that it preferred a bottle of orange juice to water because of the vitamin C. mallethead

Haha I actually laughed out loud about this! Orange juice for a guinea pig? What sort of person would think that?

I work in the food industry for a flavourings company and it is my understanding, that certain components used in flavours are poisonous to some animals.

Propylene Glycol, which is often used in flavours as a carrier is poisonous to dogs...highly poisonous. I wouldn't give my boys flavoured water.

Whomever is saying that it's ok is an idiot, not an expert
