There will not be a dry eye anywhere,I'm very sorry ,sending positive thoughts forAdelle, you can never be prepared for a loss of any animal or person:hug:s to you and piggies.:(

So sorry that you are having to go through this Adelle, its so hard when a beloved piggy is coming to the end of their days. At least she still has a fantastic quality of life with you and her lovely friend. Good luck today x

I don't really know much about yourself or fudge and her illness....but reading this post I had tears thinking what your going through. the pictures say it all. what a gorgeous little piggie who is very blessed to be with you there is no doubt she's enjoyed your special bond. we are always shocked at how our pets pull through but she will know if the fight is over or not and if that gas to be she will be out of pain and suffering. I have everything I can crossed any pray for better news to come

So...

Upon re checking fudges urine at the vet, it was blood free. The vet was also happy with her hydration, and says there's a chance her kidneys may not be in immediate danger due to the turnaround.

I explained how she didn't have a very good night and seemed uncomfortable, and although she seemed to be eating and cleared her veggies as usual, she had lost weight quickly over 24 hours.

She said it may be something else so gave her a full MOT..

Turns out she was extremely painful when a certain part of her spine was palpated; and we already know she has arthritis there so it's more than likely that. The vet was confident this is the reason for her current drop in health and advised I up her metacam.

This isn't great as far as her kidneys go, but her pain level and of corse breathing is our priority.

Her heart rate is good and strong and her lungs sound decent.

The vet wants to check her kidneys in a fortnight now, after she's been on the higher dose of metacam as she said if we do it now; we will need to do it on 2 weeks time also, and she doesn't think they are the problem at the moment.

I have fudge a dose of tramadol to kickstart her pain relief and she certainly seems happier.

She had porridge for breakfast..

Grass for lunch..

And some critical care for tea, to try and prevent any further weight loss. She scoffed it!

I'm praying her demeanour and appetite returns to normal once the arthritis flare calms down.

I'm almost scared to feel relieved....!

So glad to hear that she is now more comfortable :) Fingers crossed everything can stay manageable.

Thank you all so much for the ongoing support.. God I need it with how much of an emotional roller coaster little fudge has had me on!

I knew she could keep going a little longer!
Fingers crossed for her to stay comfortable for now.:)

Ziggy is a fighter too! With a good vet on your hands you have won half the battle. Most vets would take a look at fudge, see the balding geriatric piggy with heart failure and would write her off without even examining her. I was so happy when my vet said, let's bring it back and check her all over, I'm not going to assume this is due to her heart failure or kidneys in case we can treat it.. That automatically made me feel like we where doing our best for her.

It could be just old age kidneys, everything gets creaky when you get older, I know that myself lol :) My Petal had arthritis in her stifles/hocks & was on a very low dose of Metacam most of her life, you could see it made a real difference to her quality of life xx

So sorry for missing this post. Great to see Fudge eating, I was getting worried as I read through xx

Oh Fudgie - you little dining diva. Beautiful photos as always Adelle. I hope that the increased metacam will keep her comfortable and that she has a more settled night. Hugs as ever to you and Fudge xx

:luv::wub:I'd been thinking about you all day. Keep going miss fudge. That little video is just priceless Hun. I'm so pleased to see her enjoying her food x

She had another feed, still ate it off the spoon. Then had floor time with her sister.. She's definately brighter thank goodness

Currently have a wide range of hays for my girls totalling £91 with more on the way..

And Fudge is going mad for £1.99 b&m hay! It was a bag I bought for the "poorly piggy tempting supplies". At least it's done its job!

She's a cheap date. Wish mine would eat cheap hay!

No no, not my fudge... £42 Alfalfa King hay is for wiping her bum whilst she dines on £1.99 b&m hay.

She also flosses her teeth regularly with Oxbow Orchard grass!

Oh.. And requests a frequent bag of Guinea pig muesli- but only for the pea flakes.

I am so sorry Adelle, one thing that goes in Fudges favour is she is a fighter.
Sending to help you both good vibes, hugs & kisses & lots of love. To Cruchie as well.
