As explained on another post my husband is VERY allergic to hay. I thought it was the guinea pigs at first. Ive changed over to Readigrass and his symptoms have eased loads. Which is all good news.:)
I'm just worried about Piggies. Is this going to effect their teeth? Will eating just the readigrass and not hay help with wearing down the teeth?
Obviously during summer when they are outdoors they willl be able to have hay then.

I wouldn't worry to much hun quite a few people only use Redigrass as far as I understand. So it's a solution to your problem while they are indoors and I don't think it will cause a problem.

You could phone the CCT and ask there, they would have a good knowledge whether or not it will affect their teeth.

They are eating burgess excel :) so hope this helps. Should i put some things of wood in the cage for them to gnaw on. Ive seen some "boredom breakers" products made of wood. Anyone used them ?

Ah thanks :)
Does anyone know if Burgess Excel supa fresh forage is a hay. Looked on their website and its dust extracted. Might be ok to try and see if my husband reacts to it.
Can this be bought from pets at home ?

You can get dust extracted hay, I believe Lisajazz may be selling some as her pigs prefer the oxbow, maybe pm her and ask if she still has some and then the piggies could try that :).

Oops sorry JoanneG111 just saw your previous post asking the same question mallethead. I'm a bit slow 2day.
Thanks

I use supa forage excel and it's excellent for helping with the grinding of the teeth down. I feed it ad lib, but to me is definatly seems more hay like than the readigrass. It's definatly not dusty at all. I get it from my local pets at home - but there is also many places on the internet that sell it.

I wouldn't bother with using things like wood block chews - I find guineas don't generally have too much of an issue with their incisors over growing, typically with guineas it seems to be the back molars over growing through lack of adequate chewing and grinding of forage than not knawing enough with their incisors like rats or hamsters.

The real key with dental management is lots of forage to encourage lots of chewing!

Will look in pets at home 2moro if my local one doesnt stock it then i will order on hay experts. As seen lots of things on their that work out cheaper. Dont mind payin p&p if I'm getting lots of stuff.:)

Oh hunnie... Its awful I'm allergic to hay and straw as i write this i cant stop sneezing sniffing and my eyes are itching .. I'm also allergic to the pigs themselves! But I'm the same with the horses! Our piggies are all inside they are kept on shavings with Timothy hay and hay off our land my GP has upped my medication to double so I'm now on the strongest dose ! I have drops of eyes nose sniff things and tablets \! Nothing so far has worked.... But I'm determined ive had animals since 3 yrs old I'm 25 now and always been allergic so I'm used to it now! I wqould rather sneeze and itch and have the comfort of my babies than be petless and not sneezing! Silly i know x

The CCT actually recommend feeding a dried grass - like Readigrass - instead of hay, with hay being optional (and if given, only a high quality one like Oxbow). It is not something I would personally do or normally advise, but in this case as your husband is so severely affected, I think it's fine to just feed a dried grass.

Another idea is the Woodlands food and forage from P@H. There isn't a huge amount of hay in there but it will help and my 2 love it!

i DO HAVE SOME AND I'M JUST DOWN THE ROAD IF YOU WANT SOME DUST EXTRACTED HAY TO TRY IT (sorry about caps)

Thanks Lisajazz for the offer. I think I'm gonna try giving them hay in the morning when hes in work. Then put in some readigrass for the rest of the time hes home. See how that goes.
I feel bad as they love their hay. Put some in this morn when he left and it was gone in mins.:(
