Hi all! Has anyone had their carpets professionally steam cleaned before? I’m wondering if it involves lots of smelly chemicals that might be breathed in by the pigs? There is no carpet in the pig room so their door will be shut but the longe room is right next to them.
Should I just open all windows and hope they will be okay, or put them in their carry cages and into the garden for a few hours until it’s finished and it’s aired out a little. I won’t be able to have them in their runs on the grass as I have a lot of cape weed right now and the grass is really long and green and I’m just too paranoid about bloat..which is unfortunate I know.

Hello Hannah I had my carpets steam cleaned and the guy said ( this in the UK) it’s environmentally friendly and safe for pets/ children. There was no smell. I used a dehumidifier just in case but the carpets dried really quickly.
If you could open their windows and maybe block the lounge door then I’m sure they’d be fine. My boys were.

That’s really helpful, thank you!
I guess if I feel it’s getting really smelly while he’s doing it, I can then take the pigs outside. But hopefully the stuff he uses is much them same as what your guy used!

I would ask him when he arrives what he uses etc. I don't know what it needs to be classed as pet safe, it could just be that after its dried it's ok for them to walk on.

That’s true Lady Kelly. I did ask when I arranged it that it was odourless and not harmful chemicals.

I did ask him a few days ago, but he just said that the use of the chemicals over the past 20 years or so of doing the cleaning out him in hospital once..so now he wears a mask.
He’s a little difficult to talk too. I don’t think he’d buy eco/pet friendly products either.. 🙄
perhaps I’ll put them in their carriers outside to be on the safe side!

Our carpets on the corridors to our flat were cleaned just this week and the stuff used smelt of Ammonia so if I were you I’d pop them outside whilst it’s happening 😊

Yes that sounds the best idea Hannah - just to be safe - it should dry quickly 🥰

Have you had your carpets cleaned ? Good luck anyway 🥰

So this guy actually uses stuff inside peoples' homes that has put him in hospital! That is very worrying. A friend once wanted to show me how good steam cleaning was, so she demonstrated with her new toy in my lounge = (no chemicals obviously, just water) and blew up everything electrical including the TV by (putting water vapour in the air I suppose). Rather put my off the whole idea!

Yes I did this morning! I decided to leave the pigs in and keep an eye on the smell (?). We had all the windows and doors open so I really didn’t notice a bad chemical smell, just smelt like soapy stuff! And it didn’t smell at all in the pig room. So all was fine and no harm caused to the piggies :D

Ah that’s great Hannah and ……you have nice clean carpets 😂
