My son is growing the tops off a carrot and parsnip as he wants to feed the leaves that sprout to his two young guinea pigs. I never did that when I had guinea pigs 20 years ago and cannot find anywhere online if this is safe to do. Does anyone know? Our book doesn't mention it and I have read online that carrot tops are too high in calcium to feed whereas other websites say they are OK. I am guessing by carrot tops they mean carrots bought with their leaves on and not grown in water as my son is doing? Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Ok thank you and thanks for the link. Parsnip tops seems to be a grey area of knowledge doesn't it? I will let my son continue with the carrot tops and reassess the parsnip tops. I haven't grown them in a saucer of water since I was a child. I am not sure which one of us is enjoying it the most!
