What I did learn however was that Cassie and the babies died to genetic heart problems. While this saddens me I am glad to have found out what went on and that my other pigs will be ok.

I am so sorry that they all had this terrible handicap, but I am glad for you that you now know that it wasn't something you did or overlooked; and that there is no virus that could endanger your other piggies!

At last, you can lay Cassie and her lovely babies to rest and cherish the special time that you were given with them!

I'm glad you now know what the cause was. I know how upset you were and that you were doubting yourself. Although their lives were cut short and they may not have been with you long, the grief still runs so very deep. Cassie and her bubs have touched everyones hearts on the forum and will always be remembered. Run free Cassie and babies, send piggy kisses down from Rainbow Bridge to mummy Kira who is missing you terribly..

Exactly what tests were done to determine this? I am very interested as I have two related piggies (sisters) with heart problems. My vet, who is a guinea pig specialist, has asked me to find out the exact details.

Like the rest of the posters, i am glad you now know the cause of Cassie and her bubs passing. You can find solace int he knowledge that you NEVER did anything wrong; you gave them a loving home and dignity in death by ensuring you were not at fault. Nature has its wicked, evil ways sometimes and we, mere humans, have to learn that we can't always control everything.

I thought you were having tests done on Jensen. I guess you changed your mind regarding those. I will PM you regarding the postmortem results as I am very interested in finding out as much about heart problems in guinea pigs, especially genetic ones.
