Hi,
My guinea pig (Catnip) is around 5 years old and has developed two tumors.

We discovered the tumors after we noticed he had been struggling to poop and pee, he would make a lot of squealing noises while attempting to do so and afterwards we had discovered a small bit of blood where he had been excreting. We took him to the vet where they did an xray and found that he has 2 tumors pressing against his bowels.

We were told that surgery was very high risk due to his age and the fact that there is 2 tumors, so they said just try to make his life as easy as possible and when we think he is in too much pain we should bring him in to be put down.

Ever since the tumors developed we have noticed he barely eats and doesnt walk around much at all. Pretty much lost all his energy.

Do you guys know anyway that we could help him get through this with less pain or anything? I just don't want him to live his last bit of life like this, it's painful to watch :'(.

Also we asked about painkillers but the vet said that they could make the pain worse because they could make it harder on his excretory system.

Any advice? Anything that will help would be hugely appreciated. Thank you <3

I am so sorry you are in this position

If he is barely eating and moving this does unfortunately indicate that he is in a vast amount of pain.

He really does need pain killers. Metacam is most commonly prescribed and is a anti inflammatory and pain killer, for cancer I would expect this would not be enough and want an opiate such as Vetagesic, our little girl who had a tumour was on this for a few weeks and it was vital to keep her pain free. Palliative care and pain relief is vital with tumours. I know it is hard but you really need to think about the point you need to say goodbye and help him on his way to the Rainbow Bridge. We have had several piggies PTS it is never easy and hurts us deeply, but it is the last act of love we can do for our pets.

I would speak to another vet regarding options on pain relief and what to do. I have found this website for you

Thanks, hopefully my parents and I can get him to a recommended vet within the next couple of days. I'll try my best.

My Pleasure, I am really sorry. It is hard when a pet is really poorly.
