Greetings, all.

I have a 2yo un-neutered boar whose hutch-mate has recently died. A friend of a friend has asked me if I'd be interested in adopting their solo pig, who is a sow. My boy has cauliflower willy. He's been to the vet, who says he's perfectly healthy, but I'm wondering about the implications of this for co-habitation. Unless he was neutered, I wouldn't let them live together, but the possibility of adopting a female has me wondering if pigs with his condition are capable of procreation? Will of course discuss with my vet before taking any action, but just curious if anyone knows.

Many thanks!

Good question, but ultimately there would still be a risk regardless of how physically impossible it may seem.. Boars can be determined!

He still has a functioning reproductive system therefore it is likely he would still be able to mate successfully even if it was slightly difficult for him.

Depending on the severity of the cauliflower penis, you will need to discuss with the vet the likelihood of complications. Not from the neutering, but from the inevitable "excited" state he will be in when first meeting his sow. Would his problem potentially cause his penis to become stuck when extruded? This can cause trauma and swelling if so.

Definately worth having him fully examined to see if it's a safe option
For him.

All the best x

My skinny boar has cauliflower willie & missing penile spikes both of which some say prevents them from mating, But its not true its false info as my boar got to my sow & I ended up with a litter, He has just been castrated so it won't be happening again
