Rosie is about 6 years old and has arthritis in her knees and joints. She’s currently not on any pain relief as the vets I usually use don’t agree with long term pain relief - despite me explaining my concerns that Rosie is old and probably won’t live long enough to suffer the consequences of long term pain relief treatment.

I’ve heard wonderful things about CBD being used to treat pain in guinea pigs and wondered if anybody has any experience/ opinions on it? Where do you get it from here in the UK?

@Adelle is the most knowledgeable on the forum about this.

I would also discuss this with your vet as well as any treatment should be with a vets approval

I would go back to your vet.
At her age she really should be on regular Metacam for pain relief.
Many members have had piggies on long term Metacam with no side effects, and honestly daily pain is far worse.

:agr:
Being on metacam long term is perfectly fine, especially as she is in pain. Many of us on the forum have piggies who are on metacam long-term, me included. My boy, Peanut, has interstitial cystitis so he is prescribed to be on it long-term (however I judge it by how he is as IC is a condition which has flare ups which cause pain but then they stop for a little while before flaring up and causing pain again). I’m not fully aware of the risks of having a pig on pain relief long term, if there even are any proper risks. However, I’d rather have my piggy live several years painfree than have a longer life full of pain.
I’d go see a different vet, or stress to your vet that it is something you really want to do as you feel, as a loving owner, that it will benefit her.

Frankly speaking, medical marijuana, cbs oil or any kind of may be really dangerous if you don’t know exactly how to use it properly, suitably for your case in particular.
