We have a 7-8 month old pig and that we adopted 5 weeks ago. He's got a great personality and has been growing in confidence by the day. Usually he sleeps in his den but today he has been sleeping out in the open or in the doorway. Is it usual for pigs to change their habits? Is this a sign he's more comfortable/confident or could it be because he's poorly? He's eating well and passing pellets etc as usual.

Many thanks

He's getting more comfortable around you. If he sleeps outside that's a good sign; if he was feeling poorly he'd stay hidden. Well done making him feel safe in his new home

Thank you so much! I'm relieved, I thought it was probably something like that but when your new to it it's kinda worrying when they do something different!

It's a great sign of growing confidence and trust.

Rather be alarmed and seek vet care when a well settled piggy suddenly refuses to come out of its hut for a meal and eat! ;)

Sounds like he's feeling settled. I adopted 2 sows last week and was amazed to find them curled up and sleeping in the open within a day. I took it as a real compliment.
