Hi all,

I'm new to the wonderful world of Guineas!

We're picking up our two new guineas this weekend, so excited. The rescue centre said they feed them on Gertie Guinea Pig feed and that we must keep them on that. We had already bought P@H nuggets, so have bought a small bag of GG cereal for when they arrive. Every book I've read says the nuggets are better cos they don't feed selectively.

I know its bad to change they're diet suddenly, so new food must be introduced gradually. Can anyone advise how we should do this? What quantities a day should be introduce/increase by?

What shall we do? I want more than anything for our piggies to be happy and healthy. Advice please to a newbie!

just add a small amount of p@h nuggets to the food they are used to, and increase slowly every time you top them up, My 4 eat the p@h nuggets, I think it is a good food.

Have you read the members reviews of feeds at the top of this section? It is very helpful.
I do not use Gerty Guinea Pig because of the additives it contains.I have tried several different mixes and at the moment am happy with Chudley Rabbit Royale. It does not contain vitimin c but as my pigs get more than adequate veggies and grass, this does not matter.
Just find a mix that your piggies like. The only criteria are that the mix does not contain molasses,is low in protein and does not contain chemicals,in particular colourants.

i use the pet shop mix which has vitamin C in it... as above ,,, is this ok for the babies. ive only just got it today, the petshop owner uses it for her piggies and swears by it.

just check to see if it has any coloured biscuit in it :) They're usually red or/and green. I wouldn't feed it if it has.

I always mix in some pet@home nuggets or similar kind and they eat those as well as the food. I use wagg but have tried various piggy foods and this one is the best I have found. I wouldnt be too frightened to try other foods you have to find what suits you and your piggies ;)

Blimey! It has lots of additives? I wonder why a rescue centre would recommend it then? I am going to try and get them onto the P@H stuff and see if they like it. It seems to have good reviews on here, but we'll see how they take to it!
