changing from excel to oxbow cavy cuisine

i have decided to change chesney and maisie to cavy cuisine and they already love it! :)) i am introducing it slowly but already they both ate it before the excel!

much better for ches especially as he struggles with the excel nuggets. they look too big for his mouth!

i am amazed at how much they like. they try anything... and there is only one thing they hated and that was cougette! :)>>>

be glad when they are changed over completely to the cavy cuisine!
 
Why did he struggle to eat Excel? I must admit my girlies were on gerty, unfortunately I couldn't ween them because knowing my luck Fred would be on gerty and they would be on nuggets, but they seem happy enough with the nuggets!
 
he chews the excel nuggets in a weird way. almost like they are too big for his mouth. he has been checked over and his teeth and mouth are fine. he just eats them funny. he drinks funny aswell. he has this strange habit that he has one pellet then one sip of water, then one pellet, one sip of water... and he does this for a while... :))rolleyes
 
Did you take him to the vet to check teeth? If not what did you look for? Worried about my one's teeth thats why I'm asking!
 
yes, he has been to the vets a few times and his teeth have always been fine. he doesn't eat anything else in a strange way, just the pellets. :))

aw, hope your little one is ok. maybe get a vet to check for you to see if everything is ok. put your mind at ease. :)

yeh, the best way... otherwise you will just be worrying all the time! i always feel better after a vets visit... means i can relax... for a bit anyway! :))
 
I wish mine felt the same!

I don't want them to totally swap as i can't afford Oxbow as the sole nugget. But I mix it in with the excel plain and the excel blackcurrant one. BUT they aren't fussed. It's always the one left (for the 6 girls anyway)

Mork and his girls do seem to like it though and they leave the blackcurrant ones rolleyes

I'm hoping they get used to the mix and eat the lot.

Oxbow pellets are great,i got sick of my boys selective feeding with there chaff mix(rescue makes it) so i decided once and for all they were going to oxbow and staying on it,its not cheap with 13 pigs and soon to be 21 pigs but they love it and there heakth has improved dramatically;)
I hope your piggies continue to do well on it;)
 
I changed mine from Excel to Oxbow a few months back and I'm really glad I did. At the moment I'm getting it from my vet, but I think I'll buy the 22 Kilo bag from SPH Pet Supplies - it'll last me a year and this way it works out almost the same price as Excel. The Vitamin C content is stabilised and guaranteed for 12-months once opened.
 
hmmm.... looks like i spoke too soon! they hadn't eaten the oxbow ones through the night, just the excel ones! mallethead hopefully they will get used to them! they will have too! :))

My bunnies did that when I changed them over from Excel to Oxbow; they now love the Oxbow ones.

i've been changing the bunnies over aswell. they seem fine with it.

piggies have eaten some now. think they just ate the normal ones first and now there is only the oxbow ones in they are eating them.

so next few weeks i will have them on oxbow completely which will be good. well, more expensive for me... but better for them! :))

I also bought the panacur and ivomec for worming.

I had a small sample pack of the food as I'm trying to wean them off the gerty and the only nugget type they liked was those! So i hope the big change over goes well for me. I'm sure that your piggys will take to them soon. :))
 
chesney and maisie are choosing to eat the cavu cuisine pellets first now! very happy! :)
 
ches and maisie are still having a mix of excel and cavy cuisine. think it has been about 2 weeks now since i started changing them over? probably longer... anyway, going to do a mix now until the excel has all gone and then they are just on the cavy cuisine. they don't have many pellets really, just some at night. they look better for the change from excel though. :)
