Charley had his operation today!

My guinea pig Charley had his operation today!

It took longer than expected and cost more than expected!

He survived the anesthetic and is home all snuggled up on his vet bed!

Just a few things really-

1. The vet said that I should keep my guinea's apart until Charley has had his stitches removed, will they get on after being apart for a week and a half?

2. Should I be doing anything different?

Is he out of the woods once he has survived the anesthetic?

Good luck & i'm sure they will be fine vet wouldn't have told you to do it unless nessacery. maybe keep him close by so others can still talk to & see him?

So glad it went well and he's on the mend. Hopefully he will be on the up and up now, but keep a close watch over him for the next day or two and take him straight back if you are at all worried.

My vet has always said to put them back with their cagemate after an op, and in fact suggests their mate goes in with them so they can be put back together straight after. I've never had a problem with the other one messing with the stitches either, although i've always kept a close eye on things to start with.

I would probably put them back together too as if they are separated for too long then you may have a problem putting them back together again. Surviving the anesthetic I think is 3/4 quarters of the battle. I hope Charley is fully recovered soon

I agree, I wouldnt keep them apart, it will stress him more and they probably wont re bond.

Glad he is home safely, and hope he recovers quickly. He will probably be quite queit for the rest of today but should be back to normal tomorrow. When my girl had a spey back in October I put her straight back with her cage mate and she was fine, do what you think is best to suit you. Sending healing vibes to your Charley. All the best. So glad it all went well! Did they tell you what the lump was?

It may be worth asking the vet if giving him a little extra Vit C would help as it aids tissue regeneration. It should help him with the stress of it all and give him a healing boost. Your vet may be able to sell you a few Oxbow Vit C tablets for small animals - if you can get hold of some, he may chew it, if he shows no interest, crush the tablet and add a bit of water with it and syringe feed - you vet should also be able to supply you with a little syringe or two.
