Adult Guinea Pig
Charmander
My feisty little dude was adopted in early June 2022 at around 5mo. He was a little bit skittish and never did grow to like handling but he did grow to interact with us and take food from us and on Christmas day he made my Christmas when he put his little paw on my hand for the first time
on Thursday I got the fright of my life when I went hunting for him after he'd not eaten the food left out for him and found him with a bulging and dried out eye! Straight to the vets where he was seen and operated on immediately to remove the eye and became a pirate hamster
he was hospitalised yesterday at my request as we were struggling with syringe feeding and I've been poorly myself this weekend so I felt much better about him being safely in the hands of a wonderful vet team! He came home last night and was exploring his cage and even ate some solid food by himself we were so hopeful! This morning however I honestly thought he'd already passed then I picked him up and he was moving and breathing still! Straight for a (very expensive) emergency vet trip he stopped breathing on the exam table but was resuscitated and stood up. They gave us a 50/50 chance and the choice between euthanasia or hospitalisation with oxygen/fluids etc. Hes never ever been a cuddly hamster but he snuggled right into my daughter this morning and as i was carrying him into the vets wrapped in a blanket he lifted his little face up and kissed me
Given he'd just been resuscitated and wanting to give him every possible chance while having no clue how or why he'd gone down so quickly we chose hospitalisation. Sadly 45mins later he ran across the rainbow bridge

Sleep tight sweet little charmander! We will miss your fiesty attitude and even the nips to the finger
see you at rainbow Bridge!
