Chasing and squealing

I posted a couple of months ago about my two piggies (sisters) having stand offs and not getting on, it turned out to be hormonal as advised. They have been getting on fine until today Caramel (the dominant one) has obviously come into season again & spent yesterday trying to mount pebbles which was fine but today Caramel has been constantly chasing her (aggressively) my concern is that pebbles seems scared, she’s making very high pinched squealing sounds, when ever caramel gets close before running away and hiding or freezing on the spot, it doesn’t look like she’s being nippered but it sounds awful like she’s in pain (but no signs of biting) but my daughter who is 10 is getting very upset, is this normal or do I need to separate them until the seasons over ?

This is normal I'm afraid! It looks brutal to us but it's just them communicating. The loud squealing is sounds of submission, she's not in pain at all. Some girls have stronger seasons than others but it generally calms down in a day or so.

Please don't separate them when they're in season, it will stress them out and you honestly don't need to. It's very natural for them.

Caramel isn't being aggressive don't worry, she's just being dominant. It would really help to read through the behaviour guides on the forum to help you read their body language and behaviour better, especially for your daughter as it's horrible for her to be upset. Please assure her that this is quite normal and no one is in danger or pain

It's like bickering sisters, they're all the same! I have 4 girls so you can imagine what they can be like sometimes haha.

Thanks so much for replying so quick, i pleased to hear it’s normal, my daughter was thinking that pebbles was in pain & being bullied, the noise they make sounds awful, pebbles was squealing in submission but caramel still would not leave her alone, how long will this last for and do the seasons get better as they get older (as they are 3mths old now) or will this happen every month ?

I've found it does get better as they get older, they're still very young so their hormones are raging. Sows have their seasons every 15-17 days rather than a month. Most the time you probably won't notice but some can be stronger than others.

Can you post a picture of their cage set up? There may be something you could do their to ease the madness

The high pitched squealing is submission and not pain. It is pretty effective.
