Is it okay to use cheaper hay for bedding and the dearer stuff for the hay rack and toilet roll filled hay? My boys aren't fussy on what they have but i would like them to have the greenest hay i can find like the oxbow and alfalfa king but my boys love weeing and sleeping in their hay and thought that the dearer stuff would be expensive for me throw away, so thought i would use the cheap stuff for the bedding and dearer stuff for everything else or could this cause lice problems?malletheadIm guessing it can if the lice are on the cheap hay.
Maybe i should change to fleece and use their cosy beds and just fill a litter tray full of top quality hay?rolleyes
I will be making a c&c cage for them soon too so will have more room to decide on where to put the top quality hay.xx>>>

If you fill a litter tray up with hay, I'm guessing they will first bury themselves in it and then later sit on top of it whilst they munch it (which will then of course include pooping and weeing in it). You'd be better off stuffing toilet rolls full of hay. If you're really concerned about lice, then I'd use fleece instead of hay for bedding (to save you from wasting the good hay).

Good idea thanks. Ive not yet had a problem with lice but read some horror stories and didn't want my piggys getting any. Think in the new year with the new cage i will change to fleece once the megazorb is all gone and see how i go with the toilet rolls filled with hay. :))
